Hi,
I first set up Mediawiki with LdapAuthentication extension, which worked
fine against my OpenLDAP server.
On another wiki I had to include file based user authentication (or
"non-ldap" authentication).
The is a WebDAV dir next to the wiki, so there is Apache httpd basic
auth implemented on the server. The basic auth uses ldap and as a
fallback file auth and - as far as I can see for now - works.
So I switched to Auth_remoteuser instead of LdapAuthentication.
This works for the ldap users. But it does not for the file users.
I can see the authenticated user in Apache's access log. But if try to
make any changes (which require auth) with a file user, I get the http
auth dialog in the browser, cannot auth again and cannot save the wiki
changes.
ldap user "bar" submit:
10.49.9.139 - bar(a)ofd-sth.niedersachsen.de [06/Mar/2009:11:26:05 +0100]
"GET /wiki/index.php5/Diskussion:Hauptseite HTTP/1.1" 200 12005

file user "foo" is logged in:
10.49.9.139 - foo [06/Mar/2009:11:45:13 +0100] "GET
/wiki/skins/common/images/button_sig.png HTTP/1.1" 304 -
"http://xxxs165/konsens_I/wiki/index.php5?title=Diskussion:Hauptseite&action…"
"Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR
1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30)"
file user "foo" can not edit:
[Fri Mar 06 11:45:18 2009] [warn] [client 10.49.9.139] [32120] auth_ldap
authenticate: user foo authentication failed; URI /wiki/index.php5 [User
not found][No such object], referer:

How do I get ldap and file user auth work side by side?

For now it's online-only, but they've actualy asked me yesterday if I
could redo some of the screen shots so that they would be in an high
enough resolution if they would want to go ahead and print at a later
stage.

It seems like {{REVISIONID}} doesn't
work<https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12694>.
I've tried it on Wikipedia, Wikiversity and Appropedia, and it comes out
blank.
Is there another way that I can insert a revision ID into a document? I want
to do it with a bot, rather than manually for each page.
It should probably be the last revision id, as I need to "subst:" the value,
and I'm guessing that won't work with the current value. But I'll try
anything, and I'm not so concerned whether it's the current or previous
revision ID.
I asked on Pywikipedia-L, and got this response. Unfortunately it requires
coding, and I don't understand it - so I'm wondering if there's another
option.
You're looking for the Page.latestRevision() function here:
nicdumz@host:~/pywikipedia$ python
Python 2.5.2 (r252:60911, Oct 5 2008, 19:24:49)
[GCC 4.3.2] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import wikipedia
Checked for running processes. 1 processes currently running,
including the current process.
>>> mainpage = wikipedia.Page(wikipedia.
getSite('en', 'wikipedia'), 'Main Page')
>>> mainpage.latestRevision()
Getting 1 pages from wikipedia:en...
260905624
But you'll have to code yourself in python to insert it somewhere...
It's sort of a "custom" use.
Thanks!

Hello, folks!
My self and David Öhlin have written a guide to MediaWiki for the
Swedish Internet Infrastructure Foundation (http://www.iis.se/about).
It is titled "Create a Web Site with Mediawiki" (rough translation)
and can be found here:
http://webbstjarnan.se/images/stories/documents/mediawiki.pdf
It is released under GFDL v.1.3 and we did use some of the help texts
from sv.wiki as the base for the guide.
We (that is Brion Vibber :) have also set up a swedish mailing list
(mediawiki-sv(a)lists.wikimedia.org) in order to be able to give support
in swedish.
Just to let you know what is happening in Sweden :)

Hi, how do I copy all the category pages form one Mediawiki website into
another? It is really time consuming to do it manually.
Suggestions deeply appreciated.

Bonjour,
Merci d'avance.

Hi,
I'm in trouble with my wiki:
I installed mediawiki a few months ago, I since didn't have time to work on
it, and I never wrote down my admin or users passwords.
I wonder if I could find a "howto" to recover thoses passwords, or if it's
possible to know mediawiki password format so that I can change it with a
mysql query.
Thanks by advance.
Julien

When creating a new thread, do not reply to an existing message and change the

Messages posted to the list have the "Reply-To" header set to the mailing list,
which means that by default, replies will go to the entire list. If you are
posting a reply which is only interesting to the original poster, and not the

avoids cluttering the list with irrelevant traffic.

To whom it may concern,
As the IT Manager of the Canadian Council on Learning I was approached by a Director in our Organization interested in use a Wiki for the following project (please see his email below).
He was interested in http://wikigender.org/ that seemed to layout his mental picture for his project. If possible I would like to discuss Wiki with someone who has used it, implemented and maintained in an effort to understand all that is involve with Wiki and what we can expect to gain from it.
Thanks Jeremie Legault
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks again for this, Jeremie. At this moment, we are still just exploring the feasibility and whether a Wiki on e-learning would be a good vehicle to disseminate and, most importantly, to engage stakeholders and the users community in 'connecting' on this topic. One of the recommendations of the E-Learning (to be released probably before the summer) is to generate a momentum on e-learning in Canada, sharing of resources (including creating a clearing house on e-learning research and links). From what I can see, it occurred to me that a wiki may be a good way to start addressing such recommendation. In regards to populating the wiki, we may be able to ask our colleagues in (Montreal) to assist us in identifying relevant materials that the wiki could have before we lunch it publically.
So, I guess, at this moment, I am interested in finding out the cost implications from a system point of view (eg - is there a software or license costs ? server ? etc). Also, from what I heard, there are public wikis and closed wikis where materials are being posted and reviewed by authorized assess only. Some organizations have both. I can also talk to as well to find out how successful those wikis are from a Communication point of view.
So, overall, my 'vision' is that CCL could be the 'catalyst' to get it started but then we will need to find out how could maintain it later once it is up and running (we may ask for example).
Thanks in advance
Hello,
I installed the extension
<http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:NamespacePermissions>.
After defining new groups and granting rights to some users, these
rights are shown in detail on Special:ListUsers. How could I remove this
information from page Special:ListUsers?
Could I declare every Special:<page> to be a "Restricted special page"
(a page beeing shown in bold on "Special:SpecialPages" )?
TIA
Peter
