You may need to tweak some parameters in /etc/php.ini, such as these
that I've changed to avoid this problem:
max_execution_time = 300 ; Maximum execution time of each script,
in seconds
max_input_time = 60 ; Maximum amount of time each script may spend
parsing request data
memory_limit = 128M ; Maximum amount of memory a script may
consume (128MB)
file_uploads = On
upload_max_filesize = 80M
Hope that's helpful. Good luck!

How much are you trying to import? I get this if I try to import a
file larger than 10MB, though it used to be 2MB and might still be in
some places. Try a smaller file and see if it still happens.

Hi James,
This is just a work around, but have you tried clicking the "remember me" checkbox when you log in before you import? That fixes some odd bugs like that for us sometimes.

I'm trying to import a lot of pages (Special:Import)
but I keep getting this error:
"Import failed: Loss of session data"
Is this mediaWiki or php?
I doubt that I can modify the php settings, but if I can, what do I
need to do (temporarily)?
If it's mW, what setting?

Hello,
I am new to MediaWiki and couldn't find the answer to my problem in the docs. Maybe I was just blind but I hope someone here can help me.
I have to manage a MediaWiki installation that has already bin in place for a while.
I have to add an user with admin rights, for example to change the navigation on the very left.
Currently there seems to be no admin user (or sysop).
I have root access to the file system and the MySQL db.
In the user table there is only one entry for myself and in the user_groups, there are no entries at all.
Is there a way to add a user with all admin rights without doing a new installation? There is a lot of content in the wiki already.
any help very welcome!
Claus

Subject: [FOSDEM] News : Call For Developer Rooms
To: fosdem(a)lists.fosdem.org
A *devroom* is a room in which projects can organize their own schedule made
of presentations, brainstorming and hacking sessions. Our goal is to
stimulate developer collaboration and cross-pollination between projects, and
as such we strongly favor projects with similar goals and domains to host a
devroom together.
*Distribution projects:* As every year we only have a limited number of
rooms, yet every year more and more individual distributions request a
Developer Room at FOSDEM. We do not want to have to choose between them, but
instead push our mission of a collaboration platform and cross-pollination
even further. We will host mixed distribution rooms where talks and sessions
will be organized *by topic*. Contributors from all distributions are welcome
to join in order to participate, attend, propose topics and sessions. To do
so, please subscribe to the distro mailinglist [1].
.... What we offer:
* a room on Saturday and/or Sunday,
* a video projector (with VGA cable)
* power (C/E plugs)
* wired (RJ-45) network with Internet access at the speaker's desk,
* best-effort shared wireless Internet access (a and b),
* publication of the schedule on the FOSDEM website, including speaker bios
and talk abstracts.
.... Conditions for requests:
* preference for requests with a general topic, eg. from projects with
similar goals/domains,
* be involved in Free or Opensource Software (the projects produce and
release software under an opensource license or otherwise contributes to
opensource activities and communities),
* send us a devroom request before 2009-11-22 as described below,
Distribution talks are organized collectively on the distro mailinglist [2].
Others can request a devroom by submitting the form below. For further
questions, contact devrooms(a)fosdem.org [3].
The number of available rooms is limited so the FOSDEM organization will
select the proposals that can get a devroom.
*Key Dates:*
2009-11-22: Deadline for devroom requests
2009-11-29: Acceptance notification of devrooms
2010-02-06 to 2009-02-07: FOSDEM 2010

Sorry, but I do not. It was just part of the conversation here and if I
recall correctly it was posted shortly (1 month? 6 months) after the
MediaWiki version was released that removed from logo path from
LocalSettings.php.

Do
you have a link to or a copy of that email?

Is there a reason a bunch of paths get set in Setup.php, rather than
DefaultSettings.php? Or rather, is there any reason not to change this?
Some problems I've seen with it:
* It's confusing—people look up a variable like $wgStylePath in
DefaultSettings.php only to find that it's false and magically gets set
to "{$wgScriptPath}/skins" somewhere else.
* Because Setup.php is included after Local/DefaultSettings.php, you can't
necessarily depend on the paths that are set there For instance, setting
$wgLogo in LocalSettings.php will use the wrong path unless you set
$wgStylePath too or don't rely on it at all <
http://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Manual_talk:$wgStylePath&oldid=2…
This issue was raised last there. Someone wrote in with a very nice email about some things need to be put in LocalSettings.php if for no other purpose than helping newbies learn. Logo path was one of these that should not have been droped from LocalSettings.php because it has to be explained over and over and over again, as this message thread shows.
