P.S. Also, I would like to correct the earlier posting: we're interested in
an opt-in mailing, and making it monthly rather than weekly.

Stupid question: How do I add contents to the index page?
I want to join a banner exchange program and have to add html code into
the front page(index). What file do I have to change? And can I just
copy and paste it? I'm a bit confused with the php-files and languages.
Thank you.

Sarel

Welcome to mediawiki-l. This mailing list exists for discussion and questions
about the MediaWiki software[0]. Important MediaWiki-related announcements
(such as new versions) are also posted to this list.
Other resources.
If you only wish to receive announcements, you should subscribe to
mediawiki-announce[1] instead.
MediaWiki development discussion, and all Wikimedia technical questions, should
be directed to the wikitech-l[2] mailing list.
Several other MediaWiki-related lists exist:
- mediawiki-api[5] for API discussions,
- mediawiki-enterprise[6] for discussion of MediaWiki in the enterprise,
- mediawiki-cvs[7] for notification of commits to the Subversion repository,
- mediawiki-i18n[8] for discussion of MediaWiki internationalisation support,
- wikibugs-l[9] for notification of changes to the bug tracker.
List administrivia (unsubscribing, list archives).

can be found at [3].
This list is also gatewayed to the Gmane NNTP server[4], which you can use to
read and post to the list.
Posting to the list.
Before posting to this list, please read the MediaWiki FAQ[10]. Many common
questions are answered here. You may also search the list archives to see if
your question has been asked before.
Please try to ask your question in a way that enables people to answer you.
Provide all relevant details, explain your problem clearly, etc. You may
wish to read [13], which explains how to ask questions well.
To post to the list, send mail to <mediawiki-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>. This is a
public list, so you should not include confidential information in mails you
send.
When replying to an existing thread, use the "Reply" or "Followup" feature of
your mail client, so that clients that understand threading can sort your
message properly. When quoting other messages, please use the "inline" quoting
style[11], for clarity.
When creating a new thread, do not reply to an existing message and change the
subject. This will confuse peoples' mail readers, and will result in fewer
people reading your mail. Instead, compose a new message for your post.
Messages posted to the list have the "Reply-To" header set to the mailing list,
which means that by default, replies will go to the entire list. If you are
posting a reply which is only interesting to the original poster, and not the
list in general, you should change the reply to only go to that person. This
avoids cluttering the list with irrelevant traffic.

Hi,
on our project wiki we use Polyglot extension for managing
multilingual context. I am facing to a strange problem with this
extension. Step by step:
1) create new page with translation (e.g. "Page/cs")
2) save page
3) go back to original "Page"
In the result, I cannot see "Czech" in "other languages" sidebar box.
I realized that when I change LocalSettings.php file (e.g. just adding
a blank line). After saving the file and reloading "Page", "Czech"
appears in "other languages" box. That's strange.
Thank you in advance for any advise how to solve this problem.
Best regards, Martin Landa

Juliano,
I like your approach to blogging in MW, but I'm even more curious about your
abbreviations tags, for example in the post about Mozilla Bookmarks to Wiki
(21 July 2006). I looked at the templates and tags, but saw no extension
controlling this on your Version page. Can you say how this is done? I
don't like the heavy java in the ToolTips extension. Your approach is more
like what I'm looking for.

Is there a way to list all of the sub-pages under a particular page?
For example, let's say I have the following:
Page1/Sub_Page1/Sub_Page2/Sub_Page3
Page1/Sub_Page1/Sub_Page4/Sub_Page5
If I were on Page1, I would want the query to bring back the article title for:
Sub_Page1
If I were on Sub_Page1, I would want the query to bring back the
article titles for:
Sub_Page2 and Sub_Page4
That's easily accomplishable via Dynamic Page Lists and the titleregexp
key. Something like:
{{#dpl:
|namespace={{NAMESPACE}}
|titleregexp=^{{PAGENAME}}/[^/]*$
|includesubpages=true
|noresultsheader=No subpages
}}
Depending on how you want to return the information, you may need to use
mode=userformat and maybe StringFunctions to parse out the bits you want.
