Hi all
The time has come for me to implement a calendar into my wiki .... but i'm
wondering what sort of options I've got.
There's this nifty extension that would be really easy to get up and running
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Cdamian/calendar (demo here:
http://krass.com/wiki/Sandbox/Calendar)
...as all it does it make all the day links for you so you can click and
edit at will ........, simple, but would work
But then there's the insanity of what Wikipedia has ........... dates and
months and stuff all in there with events --- how do they do it?
Some quick digging will lead you to find that their month grids
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September are no more than a template,
generated with the help of a bot
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:SeptemberCalendar2006Source) --- but
can one be expected to sit down and manually enter all that stuff? I mean,
all the events and stuff too? Are they using some extra db table I don't
know about?
I'm pretty much sold on using Cdamian's extension to get me going:
pros: simple to add things to a day, since just standard blank articles
cons:might be too simplistic for entries -- no time data etc....can't look
up based on criteria
And what about iCal format? I see this extension
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Sbrunner/SpecialICalendar.php but
haven't a clue what exactly it will do (anyone running it?) -- or if adding
entries in the iCal format will be too cryptic for my users
Holy long post I know!
Anyone with any suggestions or ideas -- please post

Hi All,
Well, I'm new to MediaWiki ( previously using MoinMoin WiKi ) ... and
now using the latest 1.7.1 version ...
I'm trying to setup security and I cannot understand how to implement
this ... I've read many many docs over the internet and it seems that
this is not completely implemented right now.
Here are the questions I have :
- How can I affect users to a special group ? cannot see any
reference in the mysql "user" table ...
- How can I restrict access for reading/editing to pages or group of
pages for a specific user or group of user ?
Many thanks,
Best regards,
Arnaud.

Like me who would like to download the wikis for offline reading in
a non-offending manner. The graph XML seems to be even better than
the Allpages in machine readable form (which I suggested a while ago).
But could Special:GraphStructure be ever a default feature?
How badly it behaves with large wikis?
I guess the GraphStructure gives a better meta-access to the document
than Allpages because the graph can preserve the document hierarchy.

Hi,
For some reason when I upload a very large file (15MB +) on a private
wiki, it doesn't work, but returns no error (neither on the Wiki or in
the Apache logs). It just brings me back to the upload screen as if
nothing had occurred. Nothing is shown in the upload log.
I thought it might be a php.ini issue, but it isn't. (as I've had
fatal errors returned in the past - but I incremented both the upload
limit and the memory limit accordingly)
Has anyone experienced similar behavior?
Hi All,
Wikipedia's robots.txt file (http://www.wikipedia.org/robots.txt)
excludes robots from action pages (edit, history, etc.) with this:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /w/
But in the interest of short URLs, I serve my MediaWiki directly from
site / without any /wiki/ or /w/ directories. So above meathod would
not work on my installation.
Any ideas how I can exclude robots from crawling all my wiki's edit,
history, talk, etc, pages *without* excluding its article pages?
Thanks,
Roger Chrisman

Is there anyway to include (dinamically) an HTML page inside a MediaWiki page?
What I'd like to do is update a table with a cron bash script. I don't
have an idea of how edit from a bash script a wiki page, but I can
edit an html file on my web server and make mediawiki include it.
Is it there any other way of doing it?
Thanks,
Andrea
Hi,
is it possible to run Mediawiki on an all UTF-8 database? I tried to
convert a Mediawiki database which is still on latin1 and the import
stopped because of some keys getting too long in UTF-8. I've read that
Mediawiki is supposed to run on UTF-8, so why does this happen at all?
Or is this just the case with existing databases from old versions? (The
wiki was originally set up on 1.4 but is running on 1.7 now.)
Currently (i.e on latin1_bin tables) e.g. greek letters will not show
correctly on my wiki.
Cheers,
Christian
Hi,
I posted about my interwiki links not working about 3 months ago.
Meanwhile I've figured out what the problem was and am wondering if I
should consider this a bug or not. My databases used to run on
latin1_swedish_ci (default latin1) collations which was also the case
for older wikis on the same box. However, if I install Mediawiki now,
I'll get latin1_bin collations and with these interwiki links won't
work any more. As soon as I switch back to latin1_swedish_ci on the
column "iw_prefix" in the interwiki table, the links will work again.
Is this behaviour intentional or not? (BTW, my MySQL server runs on a
UTF-8 default.)
Cheers,
Christian
Has it ever been considered to separate the MediaWiki markup parser from the
core MediaWiki project? It seems to me that if the parser stood on its own,
it would help wiki adoption by allowing others to use the same syntax as the
most popular wikis in the world (Wikipedia). As MediaWiki has pledged
support for Creole, it seems that eventually the wiki parsing in MediaWiki
will have to be converted to accomodate a common interface that works for
both MediaWiki and Creole, so why not use this opportunity to free out the
core parser?

Dear Folks,
And I finally figured it out after three days. God I am stupid.
I went to users and found that the sysop was indeed the name I thought it
was -but I had failed to realize that User names are case sensitive.
DOH
Sorry and thanks for your help,
Tyler
