Hello all,
I've got a problem installing mediawiki on my server, I've tried many
different versions (1.5.8,1.5.7,1.4.15) but I always get the same error.
Here is the error report (from the "checking env" page):
* PHP 5.1.2: ok
* PHP server API is apache2handler; ok, using pretty URLs
(index.php/Page_Title)
* Have XML / Latin1-UTF-8 conversion support.
* PHP's memory_limit is 16M. If this is too low, installation may
fail! Attempting to raise limit to 20M... ok.
* Have zlib support; enabling output compression.
* Neither Turck MMCache nor eAccelerator are installed, can't use
object caching functions
* GNU diff3 not found.
* Found GD graphics library built-in, image thumbnailing will be
enabled if you enable uploads.
* Installation directory: /usr/home/sopra/www/wiki
* Script URI path: /~sopra/wiki
* Connecting to buser_sopra on localhost as sopra...success.
* Connected to 5.1.7-beta; using enhancements for mySQL 4.
* Database buser_sopra exists
* There are already MediaWiki tables in this database. Checking if
updates are needed...
Creating hitcounter table...Query "CREATE TABLE soprahitcounter (
hc_id INTEGER UNSIGNED NOT NULL ) TYPE=HEAP MAX_ROWS=25000" failed
with error code "You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the
manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right
syntax to use near 'TYPE=HEAP MAX_ROWS=25000' at line 1".
I've googled for this error already, but it doesn't seem that other people
had this issue already..and I really don't understand what could be wrong
withthe environment.. that error makes me think of an unsupported version
of mysql?
Thanks a lot in advance for you help, I really like your software, keep it
up! :)

As far as I as I was aware it was one of those features of MySQL
everyone was just aware of; whenever I do a MySQL instillation I always
change this figure down to 3 because it affects the search on another
site of mine.
The FAQ details the default 4 character feature of MySQL which people
installing MediaWiki would read as part of the setup, they could then
either change MySQL themselves or alter the default message themselves

Thanks, but the FAQ did not contain any new information.
I'm still suggesting to change the text of MediaWiki:Nonefound for a
default installation (I'm aware change it myself, and did so -- I just
hope that such a small change will prevent more people for sleepless
nights about this "feature" :-) ).
By the way, though I did not mention that in my original mail, I am
highly interested in work-arounds in PHP, even at a significant
performance cost. My wiki is running on a production server, and I can't
change the setting (this MySQL feature seems very immature at the time).
Regards,
Freek
PS: Thanks that you pointed me at FAQ though -- I didn't realize there
was one. The mediawiki site is still rather confusing to me; I seem to
often end up on meta.wikimedia.org, while that seem to contain a lot of
outdated information; I suggested on a talk page to make a prominent
link to www.mediawiki.org on meta.wikimedia.org, but that has not been
done yet.

Hi!
I would like to create a Mediawiki tag that allows me to run PHP code
within an article. I've seen an extension that allows execution of
arbitrary code, but that seems too dangerous to me.
It should be from a specific file only, e.g. "/somefolder/somestuff.php"
which gets called via {{somestuff|foo}} , being "foo" a value which is
used by a function in somestuff.php
I'm sure this would allow many interesting modifications, customizations
and enhancements for MediaWiki.
Can this be done with an extension? How?
Cheers to all!
Hi,
Please change the test for "MediaWiki:Nonefound" in the default
installation from:
'''Note''': unsuccessful searches are often caused by searching for
common words like "have" and "from", which are not indexed, or by
specifying more than one search term (only pages containing all of the
search terms will appear in the result).
to:
'''Note''': unsuccessful searches are often caused by searching for
words shorter then 4 characters, or common words like "have" and "from",
which are not indexed, or by specifying more than one search term (only
pages containing all of the search terms will appear in the result).
I just spend quite some time figuring out why a search on "IP" did not
match a page, while I was sure I had a page on "IP Address ranges".
Obviously, this is a MySQL-specific problem (which only indexes words of
4 chars and up [1]), but I have the impression I'm not the only one who
encountered this "feature" of MySQL.
Alternatively, it is very well possible to make a workaround, and
recognize the fact that search with a short word is performed by MySQL,
but I dislike such a feature, so I propose a generic warning instead,
and just hope that MySQL makes it easier to change the min-word-length
on a per-table (or per-column or per-database) rather then a per-server
basis.

"Some words are ignored in full-text searches:
Any word that is too short is ignored. The default minimum length of
words that are found by full-text searches is four characters. [...]"
PS: I put the misleading "(in caps)" in the subject because I suspected
this was a case-related bug (somehow all my short words were all caps
;-) ); perhaps people will earlier spot this mail when they Google for
this quirck.
Moin,
"MediaWiki 1.6 is not released yet, even though MediaWiki 1.6alpha is
currently running on all Wikimedia sites (since August 2005)".
Ouch, so 1.6 is in Alpha stage for now about 7 months. I am afraid I have
to ask the questin again:
* Is there a roadmap/release schedule telling us when people running other
wikis can enjoy the features of 1.6, too?
I would like to upgrade a few wikis, but without a stable release I am
unable to do so - running alpha code on a production wiki isn't such a
good idea if you don't have the great network admins from Wikipedia in
the background :)
Thanx for your time,
Tels

Sounds like those templates use features of the parser available in 1.6.

Hallo,
when you take a look at "http://arktur.de/Wiki", you can't see any
picture.
I have installed the wiki some days ago, I have installed it in the
same manner as a test installation on my local server. And on my local
server, on some other servers I see the pictures.
You can see the environment variables of my hosted part per
http://arktur.de/info.php
Where can I search for the image thief?
Viele Gruesse!
