A few years ago I had strongly protested (like some other people) how easy it is to inadvertently have our IP revealed on Mediawiki. Finally a text was put in at the top which says now "You are not logged in".
This text is still hard to see. What should really be there in addition is "Not logged in" in bold RED right below the "Save Box". THATS the most crucial time when we need to know if we are not logged in.
Any idea of how I can do this on my wiki? And yes, I inadvertently just now put on my IP address on one of the MW websites for all the World to see. Great.

Low, Low, Low Rates! Check out Yahoo! Messenger's cheap PC-to-Phone call rates.
My wiki requires a login. If I'm seeing an article and am not logged in and click any Edit link, it takes me to another page and says "you are not logged in". Then I login but I lose the link of the page I was seeing. It only gives me the option to go to the Main page.
If we click Login directly, then it does give me a redirect to the page I was seeing. But I dont want to click "Login" first because that is not my first instinct when I want to edit an article. My first instinct and that of other people as well is to click "Edit".
So my question is:
If a user is not logged in, how do we create a redirect to the original page after the user has clicked the "Edit" link and has logged in? This redirect would be placed along the "Main page" link which is seen after the user has now logged in.
thanks

We have the perfect Group for you. Check out the handy changes to Yahoo! Groups.
I have successfully changed, in the top right, "login / create an
account" to just login, and then put a link on the home page to
create an account, utilizing captcha to filter out abusers.
However, if you click on what now says "login" it pulls up the page
which has the login fields, but also a link the "create an account"
which bypasses my nicely devised system. Can the content of this page
be edited (it's Special:Userlogin)?
Thanks!

Hi,
Overall I'm happier with the mediawiki system than the
Twiki. But I'm being asked to investigate the Twiki
system as the powers that be think it will be better
as a corporate knowledgebase (more control over user
access and better suited to a categorised information
resource). What I would like to know is...
How much control can the admin exert over user access
to pages? ie can certain pages be locked down once
they have been created?
And, can I create something with mediawiki that has
the categorisation of the Twiki system? I thought
about modifying the navigate menu to correspond to the
'webs' menu on twiki...
Any suggestions welcome.
TIA
Nicholas

Hey
I would like to set up multiple wiki sharing only images.
I see that different wikis can make use of images uploaded to the
commons. Thats waht i would like to have.
The problem imho is (?), that they have to share some parts of the
database regarding images. How is that possible?
Thx. HeinzJ
Hi. Well, I no longer need help with the UNIX side of backups and such.
I have just recently converted everything over to Windows Vista. Things are
going good so far, but I can't get MediaWiki 1.8.1 to even consider reading
the old database. This is the same database that 1.7 wouldn't read either
from the backup. Am I reinserting the database to the system wrong or
something?
MySQL, Windows Vista RC1, MediaWiki 1.8.1 and Apache WebServer.

[I'm asking this question again, hopefully with more clarity.]
We use MediaWiki only via apache https, using authorization,
AuthType Basic
Require Group insiders
Thus, only a trusted group of people can access the wiki.
Ideally, MediaWiki could be configurable to get the login name from
apache and then to automatically log in the user to the wiki.
Apparently this is impossible.
Is there a some way to allow our users to login to apache and then
not have to login again to the wiki (except for the first time)?
