If anyone out there is interested in the issues around this problem, let
me suggest checking the links in the RULE project. These people are
working at the coal face of making ancient hardware work with current
Linux distros, & last time I looked in on the list, they had a fair
number of questions from folks working with old 486s & low-end Pentiums
in third-world villages many miles from where the asphalt ends.
