It's not a good idea. This should be done with Wiki -> XML -> PDF, once
we have a fully working wiki->XML parser. The problem is that have to
make it work with hundreds of mediawiki's specialities like categories
etc...
Well, the current parser does produce XML, in the form of XHTML. ;)
It's not guaranteed to be valid however (use tidy to increase the
confidence of this), and additional stuff like category links you'll
need to transform into the appropriate format just as the web-UI skin does.
If anyone knows of a _good_, preferably open-source (X)HTML+CSS-to-PDF
tool I'd love to hear about it, both relating to MediaWiki and other
projects. In my day job I'm doing some stuff with XSL Formatting Objects
and the Apache FOP renderer which is functional (within the limits of
what FOP has implemented -- it's missing float support!) but is kind of
ugly to work with.
