When you do this, please keep in mind the ability to create thumbs
with multiple parameters beyond size, I'm not suggesting that such
extensions need be implemented today, I just want us to avoid a
redesign should we decide to implement them in the future.
These first two suggestions would be good, as a good thumbnail is
rarely the same thing as "reduce X and Y dimensions by 80%" for
instance. It would probably be even more helpful to be able to store
thumbnail metadata on the image itself, so that any time it was used
as a thumbnail, the right portion of the image was automatically used.
A sharper thumbnail would, in general, be useful - not sure whether a
parameter is specifically required.
