Hello
That might be a little of topic but I just released the latest version
of wikipedia-mode.el which is a mayor mode for GNU Emacs for editing
wikipedia files, best using mozex.
You will find it either in the gnu.emacs.sources newsgroup or in
http://www.emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/wiki/wikipedia-mode.el
Enjoy

I would like to upgrade my 1.5.7 wiki to version 1.6.6 but i have ONLY
ACCESS TO:
1) the files through FTP
2) the database through phpmyadmin
I was thinking of upgrading through a web-based install, but it seems that i
have to make the 'config' subdirectory writable by the web server. Is there
a way to upgrade without having to make something writable on the webserver
or i am missing something?
thanks!
Jan
Hi,
I use Text_Wiki package to parse database of polish wikipedia. I need some information about commons, i.e.: i've got something like that: [[Image:Violin case.jpg|thumb|right|200px|Skrzypce w futerale|]] and i wanna link it to: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c0/Violin_case.jpg/20…. What I need is the unknown part of url string: "/c/c0/", how could I establish it? I've been looking for any data quering wiki's database, but i don't see useful information, unfortunately.
Thank you.
Greets,
Piter.
Hi there,
Can someone check what is going wrong on Chinese Wikipedia? "Portal:台灣"
now is missing and all the content and the histories for this portal is
gone.
Thanks and best regards,
H.T.

I've set up a SVN account for Greg Sabino Mullane (username 'greg'). Greg has
contributed some patches for fixing up PostgreSQL support and will be doing some
further improvements in that area.

Hi,
Maybe a project for future SoC's :) Basically, it would be handy to
be able to perform image manipulation on the server. Libraries for
this must exist already.
Currently, there are a lot of fairly poor images, generally uploaded
straight from people's digital cameras. To manipulate them, one must
download, modify, then reupload - the last step being fairly fiddly.
It would be very handy if even basic tools like cropping,
rotating/straightening and increasing contrast were available, to
allow one to quickly modify fairly large numbers of images.
Any takers?
Steve
Hi,
I already wrote about this issue here: http://mail.wikipedia.org/
pipermail/wikitech-l/2006-January/033518.html
The problem - messages on default skin include project name, and the
inclusion costs milliseconds. I didn't do proper profiling now, but
it may consume up to 20% of time required to push out a simple page.
The easy immediate cure for any site is to check that there're no
transformations happening in these messages:
mediawiki:aboutpage
mediawiki:privacypage
mediawiki:disclaimerpage
mediawiki:aboutsite
mediawiki:pagetitle
As for mediawiki development, the urls may point to Project: (what
would be rewritten into proper project namespace afterwards), or have
$wgSitename used in Message files...
Message transformations matter in many other cases, but those at
least are not triggered on every page load.
I guess this doesn't matter that much with Tim's new Skin rendering
engine, but I can't tell now, :)
Cheers,
Domas
