We would like to thank Pascale Camus-Walter and
Benoît Soubeyran, whose mandate ended on this occasion, for their
commitment to the movement. We would also like to extend our thanks to
Pierre-Yves Beaudouin who, after 5 years of intense dedication as a
chairperson, left his role to Capucine-Marin, while remaining in the
board to ensure continuity.
The board now includes new faces from all
around France, including from overseas territory La Réunion. It is also
composed of 7 men and 5 women, among which we are very proud to welcome
our first non-binary chairperson, Capucine-Marin (she/they), a seasoned
wikimedian whose deep commitment to free knowledge and equity will
continue to show with this new role in the movement.

Hi all,
I’m writing to share the latest update on the Equity Fund, a pilot program
created by the Wikimedia Foundation to address the barriers to free
knowledge experienced by Black, Indigenous, and communities of color around
the world.
As we've shared on Diff today [1], based on feedback from the first round
of Equity Fund grants we are continuing to iterate on our process for
choosing grantees and increasing community participation. Today, we are
opening up the second round of Equity Fund grantees and are seeking
community recommendations. We know that many of you work closely with and
are aware of external organizations that can help advance the movement’s
goals and address equity gaps. We invite recommendations from current
Wikimedia volunteers and communities through an intake form available on
Google survey [2] and LimeSurvey [3]. We’ll be taking your suggestions for
Round 2 through February 18. Thank you to those that have already submitted
recommendations!
You can read more about the current status of the Equity Fund, criteria for
grantees, as well as other updates around community participation with the
Equity Fund on Diff [1]. We invite your questions and feedback on Meta [4].

Dear Wikimedians,
Today I am excited to share a document [1] with you that I hope will help
initiate the conversation around how to ‘innovate in free knowledge’.
This document directly refers to recommendation 9 “Innovate in Free
Knowledge” [2] of the Movement Strategy that calls for the exploration and
expansion of free knowledge projects. The aim is to stay relevant and to
serve our movement’s vision to give access to the sum of human knowledge.
Building upon this recommendation, our team at Wikimedia Deutschland
outlined different stages of innovation – taking into account the different
structures, people, processes of support that innovators and innovations
might require at each stage in order to grow. The paper maps out how each
innovation stage is or isn’t existent within our movement. And uncovers
what is still clearly lacking: While it is not surprising to see structures
and processes in place to support the development of existing Wikimedia
projects, there are only few support structures and resources to promote
new free knowledge projects that are equally needed for the movement to
evolve, grow and to become sustainable.
The outlined examples are far from exhaustive, so don’t see this as the
final and absolute version of the mapping. This map is one way to raise
awareness and make ‘innovate in free knowledge’ become more relevant in our
movement.

Hello everyone,
The Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees has provided an update on the
ratification process for the updated Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC)
Enforcement guidelines [1]. In the next few weeks, the UCoC project team
will provide more information on how to participate in the ratification
process. The timeline has been updated on Meta [2] as the UCoC project team
prepares for the voting process that will take place in early March.
To help to understand the process better, the Movement Strategy and
Governance (MSG) team will be hosting Conversation Hours on the 4th of
February 2022 at 15:00 UTC, and also on the 4th of March 2022 (exact time
to be announced). We are urging everyone to join the conversation hours and
dialogue with the UCoC project team on the voting process [3].
In the meantime, please take a look at the revised and translated
Guidelines [4] that the drafting committee has been hard at work on over
the last few months to improve and clarify. There is a comparison page if
you would like to see the changes to the guidelines since the draft review
last year [5]. You can leave your comments on the talk page as well [6].
Finally, the UCoC and MSG teams want to deeply thank the Drafting Committee
for their hard work and dedication in finding equitable ways of applying
the UCoC in ways that work for both our growing and more established
community processes across the movement.

I have created a wishlist for Commons to have all the phabricator
tickets(approximately 900) fixed, the video upload issues to be fixed, tfa
to be added to existing tools. Via a team of Staff and volunteers being
created to focus on Commons.
Two fold fix the existing problems, and then make it possible to bring new
multimedia content to the projects.

*Why are we asking?*
- We have improved the documentation

friendlier and easier to use. This will mean little if it's only in English.
- Thousands of volunteers haven't participated in the Survey yet. We'd
like to improve that, too. Three years ago, 1387 people participated. Last
year, there were 1773 of them. We hope that in the upcoming edition, there
will be even more - if you help us with translations. Also, you are better
than us in contacting Wikimedians outside of wikis. We have prepared some
images to share. More to come.
*What is the Community Wishlist Survey?*
It's an annual survey that allows contributors to the Wikimedia projects to
propose and vote for tools and platform improvements. Long years of
experience in editing or technical skills are not required.

Hallo!
There's an old MediaWiki feature: When an administrator deletes a page, a
bit of its content is automatically added to an edit summary. This is later
viewable in deletion logs.
If you edit in the English, German, or Italian Wikipedia, then you haven't
actually seen this feature in years, because administrators in these wikis
essentially removed it by locally blanking the system messages that make it
work.
In many other wikis, however, this feature is still working.
Is it actually useful? Or should it perhaps be removed?

We want to give you an update related to Wikimedia Wikimeet India 2022.
Wikimedia Wikimeet India 2022 (or WMWM2022) was to be conducted on 18 to 20
February 2022, and is postponed now.

Currently we are seeing a new wave of the pandemic that is affecting many
people around. Although WMWM is an online event, it has multiple
preparation components such as submission, registration, RfC etc which
require community involvements.
We feel this may not be the best time for extensive community engagement.
We have also received similar requests from Wikimedians around us.
Following this observation, please note that we are postponing the event,
and the new dates will be informed on the mailing list and on the event
page.
Although the main WMWM is postponed, we may conduct a couple of brief
calls/meets (similar to Stay Safe Stay Connected call) on the mentioned
date, if things go well.
We'll also get back to you about updates related to WMWM once the situation
is better.

For some time now there's been a project called Wikidebate on Wikiversity:

The project has matured over the years, receives occasional contributions,
drives some 7000+ views a month and ranks first on some search keywords
like "objective reality" and "subjective reality".
I feel it has potential, but the truth is it hasn't been growing much
lately. So today I thought I could ask others for their wisdom: do you have
any ideas on how to help it grow? Maybe doing something to the home page,
the flow for creating new debates, or the title conventions?
