I agree completely. I would not have bothered
criticizing Ed as
strongly as I have if Ed had not announced his
intention to ban
people unilaterally.
OK --I took that comment by Ed as a tongue in cheek
remark-- a joke. That nobody else took it that way,
except maybe Ray -- was no doubt a surprise. I think
maybe Ed meant it as a self-effacing joke. Thats
enough on that. Ed can answer this or not.
Actually, Ponte is not and never was an
environmentalist >or a scientist. To the contrary,
he's a former Reader's >Digest editor and Hollywood
publicist
No kiddin. So thats kinda like 'Leeza Gibbons leaving
the infotainment biz to do nanotech research and
investment. Or maybe like Gary Coleman putting away
his acting carrer to....
writes nowadays for conservative websites such as
GOPUSA.com and the David Horowitz website
FrontPageMagazine.com.
This guy is a jerk-- I used to read his crap on
H-Diplo. And why Camille Paglia likes his nonsense I
dunno.
As Connolley demonstrates, Ponte misrepresented the
conclusions of the 1975 report published by the
National >Academy of Sciences
(NAS),
Thats too much reading for me-- can you point to
something that's only a sentence long, yet will get
the point across just as well?
If you want to know what someone ACTUALLY said,
you should go back and read > the original rather
than >play Chinese
Whispers.
This should be policy-- "no trusting web sources."
I assume that Ed had me in mind with his reference
to a "biased, axe-grinding environmentalist." This
is a
fairly typical example of what he calls his
"cordial" and
"affable" approach to discussing this topic.
I wouldnt call his approach "cordial" or "affable"
either-- maybe "condecending," and "imposing" --but he
tries really hard, and gets it right usually. With
this issue... well, Sheldon's right-- everybody has
*some* kind of bee up their butt.
