I want to "touch" an article by performing an empty edit, as if someone clicked "Edit" followed by "Save Page". Does anyone know why this code works sometimes and has no effect other times?
function touch($page) {
$title = Title::newFromText($page);
if ($title) {
$article = new Article($title);
return $article->doEdit($article->getContent(),
'',
EDIT_UPDATE);
}
Thanks,

Hello,
We've been using mediawiki for internal documentation of various
projects for some time now. Many of our pages use sections,
subsections and sub-subsections to document compilation settings for
the various codes we use. Sometime relatively recently (~months ago)
the formatting of these pages broke. Our current configuration is:
CentOS 5.5
2.6.18-128.2.1.el5xen #1 SMP Tue Jul 14 07:07:49 EDT 2009 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
php-5.1.6-27.el5
httpd-2.2.3-43.el5.centos.3
mediawiki-1.12.0
mysql-5.0.77-4.el5_5.4
To be more specific, the problem appears to be with "empty" sections.
For example, the following wiki text:
==Section 1==
===Subsection 1.1===
====Sub-subsection 1.1.1====
==Section 2==
===Subsection 2.1===
====Sub-subsection 2.1.1====
Doesn't format correctly when I save and view the page. Its as if the
wiki engine doesn't recognize the section headings and I just get one
big string of text like this (all on one line)
Section 1=====Subsection 1.1=======Sub-subsection 1.1.1======Section
2=====Subsection 2.1=======Sub-subsection 2.1.1==
Although its odd to me that there are only 2 equal signs at the end of
the string and none at the beginning. Also, the TOC doesn't show up,
which makes sense if the wiki engine isn't recognizing the sections.
If I put any non-whitespace character in the sections example above,
the page formats as you would expect and the TOC appears.
The specific formatting I'm trying to fix looks more like the example
below. Apparently a pre-formatted section (<pre>) doesn't help as
none of the section headings below are recognized either. I have to
put text (just one character will do) under each code section as well
as before and after each pre-formatted block in order for all the
sections to format correctly and show up in the TOC.
So my questions:
- can anybody else reproduce this?
- is this expected behavior?
- if not, any ideas for tracking down where the error is occurring
(mediawiki, php, mysql, apache, ...)?
Some help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Darby

Hello
As I wrote in an earlier email I might be forced to upgrade
from 1.9 to 1.16, but is there painless way that I don't
have to reinstall and reconfigure all my extensions?
thanks

Hello All,
I am having some trouble getting the math function to work correctly.
Currently simple equations render find such as: <math.> y=x+b</math>.
However if I try to use a more complicated equation such as <math> \frac
{x}{y} </math> the picture renders but displays the equation exactly how it
is shown between the math tags. I have tried entering the same equation
from the command line using the function:
texvc /home/wiki/tmp /home/wiki/math " \frac{x}{y}" and the resulting .png
is correct. Any Ideas on what could be going wrong.
I am running MediaWiki on Ubuntu 10.10 with php5. I am new to mediawiki so
please let me know if there are any other details that you may need.

Hi all,
Experimenting with the sphinx search extension, I've discovered that
searches are now case sensitive. From what I can see, it isn't
supposed to be doing that.
The possibly relevant lines from sphinx.conf:
# uncomment next 2 lines to allow wildcard (*) searches
min_infix_len = 1
enable_star = 1
# charset encoding type
charset_type = utf-8
# charset definition and case folding rules "table"
charset_table = 0..9, A..Z->a..z, a..z, \
U+C0->a, U+C1->a, U+C2->a, U+C3->a, U+C4->a, U+C5->a, U+C6->a, \
U+C7->c,U+E7->c, U+C8->e, U+C9->e, U+CA->e, U+CB->e, U+CC->i, \
U+CD->i, U+CE->i, U+CF->i, U+D0->d, U+D1->n, U+D2->o, U+D3->o, \
U+D4->o, U+D5->o, U+D6->o, U+D8->o, U+D9->u, U+DA->u, U+DB->u, \
U+DC->u, U+DD->y, U+DE->t, U+DF->s, \
U+E0->a, U+E1->a, U+E2->a, U+E3->a, U+E4->a, U+E5->a, U+E6->a, \
U+E7->c,U+E7->c, U+E8->e, U+E9->e, U+EA->e, U+EB->e, U+EC->i, \
U+ED->i, U+EE->i, U+EF->i, U+F0->d, U+F1->n, U+F2->o, U+F3->o, \
U+F4->o, U+F5->o, U+F6->o, U+F8->o, U+F9->u, U+FA->u, U+FB->u, \
U+FC->u, U+FD->y, U+FE->t, U+FF->s,
Am I reading this right? It looks to me like it means to translate
all upper case letters to lower case letters; assuming it does this
consistently for both search queries and indexing, that *should* do
the job. But apparently it isn't.
The installation went smoothly. I did not encounter any errors.
I have not changed the charset_table. The wiki is in English, but I
have gotten errors that seem to indicate character set issues that I
haven't figured out how to fix. At this moment, I can't remember
what I ran that produced those errors. (Sorry!) And I would like
to preserve the option to introduce other languages in the future.

Hi guys,
I have this weird issue where my category pages seem to get populated with
duplicates of the pages in that category. Eg. If I have a category:Foo, and
pages Bar and Baz, on the page Category:Foo, I see
*Bar
*Bar
*Bar
*Baz
*Baz
Anyone know why this might happen? I have a hunch that it happened in the
past when I ran the upgrade script, because newer pages in that category
don't have duplicates yet.
In the case that there are problems with my database, what would be the best
course of action? I posted here a couple days ago about database errors
during the upgrade process, so I'm wondering if there is some bug in the
database that keeps getting propagated by the upgrade scripts. The data in
the wiki is pretty critical and backed up on a regular basis.
Thanks!

Hi all,
I was wondering if it is possible to define a validation workflow of the information stored in a wiki ? In fact, we are thinking of using such a tool as a knowledge managment tool internally to my company, where for example anyone could write articles that would be validated first and made public in a second step after validation by a board of experts for example.
I saw that it is possible to lock articles in read only, it could be the status "validated". It would be useful to be able to list all articles that are not in a read only state, and mark those pages as DRAFT for example with specific colors or whatever visual effects that indicate the information needs to be considered carefully.
In case a pages is lock, is there a mean integrated in mediawiki to ask question or propose updates (because of new information or corrections are necessary) ? is there a kind of tracking system ?
thanks a lot
gabriel

Hello All,
How can I implement workflow in mediawiki. I want that if somebody make any changes in Mediawiki, a mail should go to specific email ID so that person can review the content.
Currently we are using Recent changes option in special pages but we need email configuration.
Please suggest.
Thanks & Regards,
