Hello,
I'm running mediawiki 1.5.0 and I would like to have four groups (sysop,
bureaucrat, developers, contributors) where:
- sysop has full privileges;
- bureaucrat has almost full privileges (can create new users, edit and
add new pages, but cannot modify pages owned by sysops);
- developers can add new pages and modify them but only on their own
projects;
- contributors can only modify some pages.
In order to allow future upgrades I prefer not to install patches not
officially provided by mediawiki.org.
Could someone tell me how to do it?
I would also like to create new projects/namespaces with subpages, but
the documentation on meta.mediawiki.org is not clear about it. How
should I do it?
Please save me...
Thanks in advance and best regards
Gabriele
Hi,
I am running mediawiki 1.5.2 on Fedora core 4.
I try to have TeX implemented. I read the 'Enable
TeX' on meta and the README file in the math
directory.
I have all the external programs installed and tested.
The command line texve seems working well.
For example, by executing the following command in the
math directory
./texvc /var/www/wiki/images/tmp
/var/www/wiki/images/math/ "\lim_{n \to \infty}x_n"
iso-8859-1
I got the desired PNG in the
/var/www/wiki/images/math/
So the directory permssion is OK.
But when I tried <math>\sqrt{1-e^2}</math> on
mediawiki
I got the following error msg,
Failed to parse (unknown error): \sqrt{1-e^2}
Can someone help me and share some light
thanks
jc

... Wrong link here ...
Here is my Part of the LocalSettings.php where i've done this:
221 # create Test-ExtraNamespace:
222 $wgExtraNamespaces =
223 array(100 => "testnamespace",
224 101 => "testnamespace_talk"
225 );
226
227 # restrict access to this extra-namespace
228 $wgRestrictedNamespaces =
229 array(100 => "testgroup",
230 101 => "testgroup"
231 );
232 # allow only 'sysop' and 'testgroup' for restrictedNamespace 'testnamespace'
233 $wgGroupPermissions['sysop']['testgroup'] = true;
234 $wgGroupPermissions['testgroup']['testgroup'] = true;
235
236 $wgGroupPermissions['testgroup']['read'] = true;
237 #$wgGroupPermissions['testgroup' ]['edit'] = false;
238
Then, you can create a Page using the following link:
[[testnamespace:foobar]]
After this, the page 'foobar' can be viewed / edited only by the groupes you defined above.

Torsten

Oh, Thank you!
I had a blank line in my LdapAuthentication.php that caused the error.

Check your LocalSettings.php and any other PHP files you may have modified for
extra whitespace or extra blank lines at the end of the file. This will appear
in output, making the XML invalid.
(The "<?xml" must appear *exactly* at the start of the XML data stream.
Whitespace or blank lines before it are illegal.)

Hi,
Since I upgrades to mediawiki 1.5 my firefox browser complains about an error when loading the rss feed 8e.g in a dynamic bookmark)
The error is:
XML-Processing Failure: XMP Processing Instruction not at beginning of external entity (Line2, column1)
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
^
I've translated the error from german.
The XML itself seems to be valid, though.

Hello all,
I desesperately need help and some one of you may give me a few TIPS ...
I try to enable "file upload" in my wiki (for images but also other
files type)
I changed the default settings to enable various file extensions.
The problem is : whatever i try to upload i have an error message
I tried JPG, PDF or some other things
`
Ce fichier est corrompu, a une taille nulle ou possède une extension
invalide. Veuillez vérifer le fichier.
Something like :
The file is corrupt or has an incorrect extension. Please check the
file and upload again.
If i try GIF i have :
The file you uploaded seems to be empty. This might be due to a typo
in the file name. Please check whether you really want to upload this
file.
Basically, my problem may be : i have nothing in the local settings
(i don't know why) about file upload, so i modified the default
settings(and this may be wrong)
thanks for your feedback.
I'd like also what is the rule to follow when you want to modify any
of the default settings and this settings is not in the local settings ?
Thnaks for your help
Here is what i did in my default settings :

Hi,
I use a MediaWiki 1.5 on a SuSE 9.3 box and I have a problem with the
scaling of images. If I use the scaling of an image like :
[[Bild:Ultraschall2-SW9.png|80px|thumb|left|Ultraschall1]]
I will get in the HTML-sourccode :
<img
src="/wiki/images/thumb/a/a6/Ultraschall2-SW9.png/80px-Ultraschall2-SW9.png"
alt="Ultraschall1" width="80" height="109"
longdesc="/wiki/index.php/Bild:Ultraschall2-SW9.png" /></a>
As far as I know this cant work then the /80px-Ultraschall2-SW9.png
doesnt exist. But I dont know php so I cant figure out where the
problem is.
Maybe someone can help me on this?

I have images directory owned by apache and 777. I
did make under math direcotry.
I also uncomment the $wgUseTeX in the
LocalSettings.php
But I keep getting the following when I try to write
math in wiki
Failed to parse (unknown error): \sqrt{2}
I read the enable TeX and README file.
Any suggestion?

I wanted advice on understanding two things,
1)If i am adding references in a separate table how do i update this table
when the user opens the same page again and deletes some reference from it. I
want to be able to check a page for references every single time the user
opens a page and saves it after changes. In that case should i always delete
entries from the referencelinks table if soem references have been deleted or
is there some other way to go about with it?
2)I have created a global variable $wgReferenceIDs[] as suggeested but i
wanted to know if the variables contents will get overwritten if the user
moves from one page to another. Does opening a new page start a new session?
Thanks
