Hello everyone!
The GLAM-Wiki US Consortium will be hosting the first GLAMout May 3rd
noon-1 PDT. This is mostly an effort to get (and keep) momentum for our
work, exchange information with one another. This is a forum for
cultural professionals, Wikimedians, or any interested parties to learn
and chat about GLAM activities. Our goal is to have an anchor topic each
month and then to leave time for information exchange. We'll be using
Google Hangout on Air as a platform (which will also allow the sessions
to be recorded).

Connection details to come but plan to join!

Hi all,
Both the Scots and the Scots Gaelic Wikipedias are now notified - I
had been meaning to get around to this earlier today but it had
slipped due to some other work, along with notifiying the en.wp
Edinburgh project.
NLS are definitely aware of the possibilities of working with the
gd.wp community; I've brought it up at some of the meetings I've had
with them in the past, and they were interested - they do have an
active organisational plan to do more to support Gaelic, and it's easy
to see how working with WP could fit in there. (The plan is
interesting reading, incidentally:
http://www.nls.uk/about-us/corporate-documents#gaelic ). I'm hoping to
have a chat with our contact there sometime in the near future, and
I'll remind them about it :-)
- Andrew.

Hi all,
Just as my work at the British Library is coming to an end, I'm
delighted to be able to tell people about a new Wikimedian in
Residence post at the National Library of Scotland - I've helped work
to set this up, and I think there's a real potential for doing amazing
things here. The NLS is a great institution, with some really
innovative and forward-thinking work, and as well as the obvious
strengths in Scottish history and culture they have major map
collections and one of the most interesting publishing archives in the
UK. Lots of scope for interesting projects here.
It's full-time, for four months, though this may possibly be
negotiable to a longer period at part time - it's worth asking. The
job is paid and formally employed by the Library, funded jointly by
the Library and by Wikimedia UK.
http://blog.wikimedia.org.uk/2013/04/1533/ has further details and a
link to the NLS recruitment site.
Please circulate this widely!
Thanks,

Hi!
On June 8th, we will have the first edit-a-thon in Denmark. We will focus
on the year 1864, and plan/hope to have experts from several Danish GLAMs
involved.
Link: http://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/Edit-a-thon_1864
Wild thought: If someone wants to make an simultaneous edit-a-thon on the
same subject, let us know. It would be cool.
Regards,
Ole

Congratulations, Andy.
Just to avoid any potential misunderstandings here, can I point out that this isn't a WMUK-supported WiR position, i.e. WMUK hasn't been involved in establishing or running this WiR position, and there's no contract between WMUK and the institution (as there is e.g. with TWAM and the Science Museum using an agreement like that at http://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Example_WiR_agreement.pdf ). This is something that Andy's doing as an individual.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi folks,
I am pleased to announce that this morning, I start work as Wikipedian
in Residence at The New Art Gallery, Walsall
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Art_Gallery_Walsall>
I hope to have a project page on-Wiki later today, but in brief the
main part of the project will be running a series of free open events
for members of the public to learn to edit Wikipedia, and to use the
gallery's impressive library an archives. Of course I'll also be
training gallery staff, and advising the management board on their
strategic approach to open content.
This residency runs alongside my existing residency at Lancashire

Bern, 12.04.2013 - The Swiss Federal Archives and Wikimedia CH are joining
forces to review source materials from the Federal Archives and publish
them online. To this end, the post of a “Wikipedian in Residence” is now
being advertised via Wikimedia. The first joint project will provide access
to a photographic collection on the First World War.
2013 sees the start of a new collaboration between the Swiss Federal
Archives and Wikimedia – two organisations committed to free access to
knowledge. With a view to publishing freely usable, “public domain” source
materials from the Federal Archives holdings online via Wikimedia – such as
Wikipedia, Wikisource and Wikiversity – a “Wikipedian in Residence” will be
working in the Federal Archives over the next few months.
Wikimedia has been gathering experience with the “Wikipedian in Residence”
concept internationally since 2010, at institutions such as the Museum of
Modern Art in New York, the British Library in London and the US National
Archives near Washington. The Federal Archives partnership is the first
collaboration with a GLAM (*Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums*)
institution in Switzerland.
The initial goal is to make more than 5,000 digitised photographs from a
collection on the First World War searchable and freely accessible via
Wikimedia by autumn 2013, providing researchers with a fascinating, well
catalogued and freely accessible body of materials just in time for the
centenary of the war’s outbreak in 1914.
As a guest of the Federal Archives, the Wikipedian in Residence will
promote entries in the online encyclopaedia that relate to the Federal
Archives and their holdings, and publish material under open-content
licences. Links between the Federal Archives and the Wikipedia community
will also be expanded.
The Federal Archives and Wikimedia CH will report on the collaboration and
its results at regular intervals.
