Hallo,
People have already mentioned to you that forcing a
new window to open
is widely considered bad usability; I would like to add that the link
text "click here" is similarly frowned upon.
First, you might want to consider the difference between an actual
usecase and a so-called "example". The "Click-Here-Case" was a latter
one.
Secondly, although I fundamentally follow the belief that the editor
dictating the user's browser's behaviour is a Bad Thing[tm], this way
of thinking of course rules out a bunch of considerable exceptions
which might pop up and be good reasons for opening new windows.
By some bizarre conincidence, this is the case here. Always keep in
mind that especially in wiki context "user" (content receiver) and
"editor" (content provider) are not separatable. Especially in closed
user groups. Especially in an intranet. So: For me as administrator of
this intranet wiki, every other day users/editors/colleagues line up
at my desk, my phone and my inbox asking how to open links in an
external window. Get it? The users want it. The editors want it. The
reason for these wishes is irrelevant. And in this very moment the
answer to their request "It isn't available because of a online
community religious war saying 'what you want is defined bad so you
don't get it'" is no longer justified.
One might want to think over these basics of the usual religious war
regarding this question.
Bye
Philipp
