It was Lee's idea.
Database alterations should be in clean, separable
text files containing
runnable, human-readable SQL statements. They should be called
"patch-XXX.sql" where XXX is a descriptive word. They should go in
maintenance/archives. patch-list.txt there should include a description of
the problem it solves and instructions on what it's all about.
Okay, fine by me. My MediaWiki namespace code needs a PHP script not
just SQL, should I name it similarly?
If you're not going to use update.php, could you please use some other
method of making sure you mark files group writeable? Perhaps a umask
command in your login script?
