1. Using Firefox for Windows 1.5.0.6, went to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Export
2. entered Pete_Seeger in the export box, and clicked "export"
3. hit "view source" on my browser, and ctrl-A to select all
4. pasted the xml into textpad (
textpad.com), saved as unix-style text,
called Pete_Seeger.xml
4. went to my local mediawiki --
index.php?title=Special:Import&action=submit,
browsed for Pete_Seeger.xml, and hit "Upload File", and got this exact
message:
Import failed: XML import parse failure at line 54, col 436 (byte 4845;
"48.</ref>"): not well-formed (invalid token)
I get the same message if I save as PC-style text (with a different byte
number, which reflects the additional \r in Windows-style text):
Import failed: XML import parse failure at line 54, col 436 (byte 4898;
"48.</ref>"): not well-formed (invalid token)
I'm running FreeBSD 5.4, apache 2.0.53, php 4.3.10, mysql 4.0.24, mediawiki
1.6.3
Thanks,
Charlie

Please be specific about which pages, and exactly how you fetched and
saved them.
In particular note that some browsers default 'save as' to a mode which
corrupts
the file if you view it in-browser.
