Unfortunately, when I try doing this and then
reloading the SQL into a
database on my home machine using
mysql -u root -p --force --default-character-set=utf8 < ZZZZ.sql
the utf8 is not recognized.
Can you:
1) Show the exact error message if there is one
2) Describe the exact difference between actual and expected behavior if there
isn't an error message
?
Keep in mind that MediaWiki does not really expect to have to deal with MySQL
4.1 or higher and mostly just ignores character set issues. (There is an
experimental schema using explicit character sets and issuing 'set names utf8'
however I don't recommend using this in production at this time, as automatic
updates will break it.)
