As far as I understand, linking to a category as

Thanks a lot, you've just managed to reduce the number of MediaWiki
"bugs" in our list from 13 to 12. Of course, this was no bug but
a gaffe on my part. I've been using the [[Category:Foo]] links
all along to assign pages to categories, of course, but did
not realize it was them when attempting to link to categories
from within the body of a text. <oops>
Hope you don't mind I've credited you, for enlightening us,
on our bugs page's Talk page:
http://tinyurl.com/pbdue .
Among the 12 remaining ones we'd like to solve is another
one related to Categories that has been mystifying us:
alphabet lists on category pages simply do not work.
Here's a category,
http://tinyurl.com/pavsv , and as you
can see, it lists pages with the initial letters R, D, M
under the letter P. Deleting those pages and setting up
new pages with identical titles does not solve the problem
-- the pages get assigned to the letter P again.
