The thing is, we can use it for everything, but it doesn't need to be
our only communications method.
For example, we could do a blog post and then send a note to the
mailing lists about the blog post: "For more information, see
http://licensing.wikimedia.org/blog/" (or whatever). We could also
put the whole post in an e-mail and send that. (Brion does this for
most of his blog posts <http://leuksman.com/log/>, sending them to
wikitech-l as an e-mail and then posting nearly the same thing as a
blog post).
As always, a mixture of tools is the best way to succeed. :-)
