[Labs-l] What are "projects" and how should I use them (+intro)

I don't mean to be obtuse, but how does the bot project more easily share
their infrastructure and community due to the presence of the project?  You
see, I'm trying to learn how these things work.  I did not meaning to
suggest that a bot developer should avoid the bots project.  I just want to
understand how projects work and when I should consider creating a new one.
