I think we've got some really cool and useful, but still pretty soft, anti-spam
measures brewing. I think it would be ideal if, as these roll out, we look to
create kind of a cohesive and configurable solution. I imaging a section in
localsettings where one could tweak the settins for all sorts of anti-spam
behaviour to match the problems in a given wiki. Certainly some wikicities
could benefit from some fairly aggressive settings.
I've got a first pass of the url logging script that runs on 1.5 - I posted the
code on Meta:

You guys might be able to do better or suggest some improvements, but I think
this is probably good enough to do some short term data collection. It requires
one file with write permissions turned on. I'm thinking running it for about a
week on a large wiki would yield lots of data. Any takers? I'm running it on
mine, but I've got so many other spam filters in place that the data isn't as
meaningful.
