want {{--}} to be treated as if you'd typed {{—}}...

No, like I said the currently availible implementation has flaws, and
there might also be other issues to work out besides that, such as
locale issues. But I don't think anyone (Brion for one doesn't, IIRC)
objects to the idea of having a working implementation of that in the
parser.
