You are of course correct. (Which is why both Wikipedia:News style and
Wikipedia:summary syle now both say: "For the planned paper Wikipedia 1.0,
one consensus recommendation is that the paper version of articles will be
the lead section of the web version. A concise intro satisfying both
summary style and news style that would work stand-alone is ideal." Reword
as you wish.)
I suppose I'm really pushing for good standalone intros, and news or
summary style is a way to get there.
