There was talk about comparison to other 'pedias, so you might be
interested in my initial breakdown of Encarta Plus, just to show the
categories and article counts in Microsoft's product.

The "educated guesses" posed by folks here tend to be correct. Some
other insights:
- Encarta has a numerical strength (in number of articles) in Artists,
Writers/Poets, Plants, Economics/Business, Medicine.
- Wikipedia probably holds its own in the US towns and cities section,
thanks to the automated bot articles.
- Wikipedia has a much better "Military" section as Encarta,
inexplicably, only has *two* official entries.
- Wikipedia has strengths in the areas of pop culture, current events,
technology, and non-Western culture.
