Hm - a press release may be in order then. If we make a large enough fuss about
this, then maybe the PRC will be shamed into lifting their petty ban.
The fact that this was only applicable for Beijing suggests that this
was a short term event based on their understandable paranoia about
commemoration of the Tien An Men events. It is very likely that other
sites received the same treatment.
Some have wondered about the general permission of the zh-wikipedia to
continue to be accessible in the PRC being something close to miraculous.
There are times for making a fuss, but I suspect that doing so at this
stage would be counterproductive if the ban in question was for anything
more than a limited time. Our Chinese colleagues are best served by
having an ongoing access, and I'm afraid that at this stage a fuss might
only encourage China's bureaucrats to take more permanent action.
