Hello,
Dumisani is right, now is the time to redouble our efforts and to make this
thing happen! On that note, a quick update on what I have been up to.
I have managed to organise about four judges for the competition so far and
I am waiting for the director of the photography department at City Varsity
in Cape Town to get back to me as well. They are all leading figures in
South Africa's photographic world.
We have:
- Gavin Furlonger (Cape Town) of Hurricanes
Photography<http://www.hurricanesphoto.co.za/about.asp>(they are very
highly regarded in the advertising and art world)
- Both the editor and sub-editor of Dossier <http://www.dossier.co.za/>
- Lourin Brown
-
Working on getting a few more but by and large I am happy with the team we
have so far. Please do let me know if anyone things of anyone else we
should adding to the judging team.
Will be having a meeting with Art South Africa some time soon about
sponsorship. They are offering to augment our prizes by offering a
subscription (length yet to be determined but no less then a year) in
addition to what we give. They will also help us organise any exhibitions
and show case events as well as publishes us.
About the calender and other memorabilia merchandise suggestion that Dumi
made last time. They are happy to help us put together a calendar (and
other such things) as well as distribute and market it as they have done it
before but they feel they are not in a position to give any money to make
it happen. So contacts, organisation, design, distribution and advice -
yes; money to make it happen - no. Having said that in my experience money
is easier to find then experienced well connected assistance, so I think we
are doing quite well there. They also suggested we do post cards as in
their experience they sell well and can be sold for a very good profit.
I have been a bit slow on the wine front but that is next on my to do list
along with drafting a list of media contacts to connect with in the final
weeks running up to Sept as well as putting together a media pack with
Isla. I am also going to be giving a PechaKucha on WLM in the second week
of September.
Cheers,
Douglas
