Community voting to fill 7 of the 15 seats of the Movement Charter Drafting
Committee (MCDC) is open and runs until the end of Sunday, October 24,
2021. This is a very important group that will help draft a charter for the
Wikimedia Movement that will undergo community feedback and eventual
ratification.

An "election compass" was created as a Q&A system to help voters evaluate

ADDENDUM
That is the base information. However, I am including more practical
knowledge and wisdom from various sources. Why? There are 70 candidates for
7 seats. If that sounds daunting, you are correct. There has been
widespread concern that the average voter cannot meaningfully evaluate the
candidates.
Therefore, here are some of the best practices and resources so far. These
are all publicly available tools and content, but I am highlighting them
here for the benefit of the community.

A result has been decided in the process to choose a "selector" for the
North American region to help determine six members of the Movement Charter
Drafting Committee (MCDC). LiAnna Davis was named by the majority of North
American affiliates and will join eight other regional selectors to help
choose the full 15 member MCDC. Thank you to all who participated in the
meetings and deliberations on a very rushed timetable. Thanks should go out
to a team of WikiConference North America volunteers who helped facilitate
this process at the request of the Movement Strategy team.
It should be noted that feedback was given to the WMF showing great concern
about the lack of time to properly determine a result that included all
stakeholders and about the inherent ambiguity of the process, given "North
America" as a region of representation is a new and novel construct. In
short, we tried to make the best out of a highly suboptimal arrangement and
asked the Wikimedia Foundation to improve its practices so we are not put
in the same situation again.

Committee selector for North America (NA). Via their representative, NA
affiliates can register their choice for selector from the two eligible
candidates, and also find additional info about the process.

any questions or discuss any issues related to the process or candidates.

Dear Wikimedia US (WALRUS) and Wikimedia Canada folks:
You are invited to a special meeting for North American (NA) affiliates on
Monday, October 11, 2021, 9 pm Eastern/6 pm Western to discuss quick action
that is needed by October 13.
Short version: The NA affiliates must choose a "selector" that will help
select individuals for the 15-person Movement Charter Drafting Committee
(MCDC) – this is after 7 seats have been filled by community voting and 2
determined by the WMF. The original deadline for NA's selector was October
10, but because of some process shortcomings, we have been granted an
extension to October 13 in order to gather nominations (self or otherwise)
and have affiliates vote.
We are proposing a very quick special process for choosing this selector.
This call will be used to make the North American community more aware of
this and to field any questions or feedback.
Please join if you can for your input and questions, especially those in
affiliate leadership. If you cannot join, we will also try to have all the
details on the wiki and talk pages. We are asking affiliates to be prepared
to make a decision by Wednesday, October 13, 2021.
