Dear all
I'm forwarding details of a Learning Clinic, run by the Wikimedia
Foundation, about the Movement Charter and the work of the Movement Charter
Drafting Committee (MCDC). Details below if anyone would like to attend.
You can also read more about the emerging draft Movement Charter on meta
here <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_Charter>. Community
consultation on the current version of various draft chapters is running
until the end of September (or perhaps it will be extended, given there is
a clinic on 7th October).
Best wishes

Hi all,
It's been a long time since Bristol Wikimedians have held an in-person
meetup. I have arranged one for Saturday 19th September in the city centre.
It's a special occasion because a delegation of Wikimedians from Bristol's
twin city of Hanover will be present, and they're keen to meet as many
of you as they can. This is an informal, friendly space to meet other wiki
contributors in person and to welcome our German friends. See more details
and please sign up on the Meta page.
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meetup/Bristol/4
If you want more reason to come, there are many cultural attractions, often
with free entry, in walking distance of the centre. Cheers,

Hello all,
A save the date for your calendar - on Sunday 26th November, we’d like to
present the Wikimedia UK 2023 Community Meeting.
We’re aiming for this online event to be a celebration of what our
community has achieved in the last year, a recognition of that work through
the Wikimedian of the Year awards, and an invitation to get involved with
new and existing activities through an Opportunities Fair.
And on the theme of celebration: at the event, we’d like to showcase work
that community members have been doing over the last while through a *set
of lightning talks*. We’d really like to hear about that which we, or other
community members might not have heard about. It’s often the case that
there’s a huge amount of work done by Wikimedians that others just don’t
see. So this is an invitation to tell us about what you’ve been editing,
in a short presentation - strictly 5 minutes or less.
Have you done interesting things with a dataset on Wikidata? Maybe you’ve
finally managed to track down a source to fix that article you’ve had your
eye on for the last two months? Did your work on a Wikipedia article lead
you to discover a really interesting story? Did you manage to get an
openly licensed image that’s transformed an article?
… and crucially, would you like to share your story? If you’d like to
present something, please email me at sara.thomas(a)wikimedia.org.uk off-list
and let's have a chat.
(If you’re uncomfortable with public speaking, please do still get in touch
and we can talk about options! Maybe we can do a slideshow, or record an
interview, or put a short video together. Ideally we'd like to prioritise
the voices of the volunteer community over those of staff members, but
we're happy to help if we can.)
All the best,
Sara

Hello everyone!!
I wanted to introduce myself, I'm Rupal and I have taken on the role of
Outreach and Community Coordinator at Wikimedia UK, which Esma previously
carried out.
I feel really excited to be joining the Wikimedia community and supporting
volunteering across Wikimedia. Part of my role is to support the WMUK
community (you!) with all the amazing work you are carrying out on-wiki and
for-wiki.
The other part of my role is to explore ways of increasing representation
across Wikimedia projects, with new communities and people and
supporting them to share their knowledge and expertise through Wikimedia
projects
Please do get in touch with me, to say hello, or if you have any questions
or ideas or plans or if you need any support with anything to do with your
role or volunteering at Wikimedia.
Looking forward to working with you all.
Best wishes,
Rupal Karia

Hi all,
The National Trust are recruiting for a Wikimedian in Residence. The
details of the post are on their website:
https://careers.nationaltrust.org.uk/OA_HTML/a/?_ga=2.166519741.2044405434.…
The deadline is soon: 23 July.
They ran a pilot scheme in 2022 and early 2023, and this will build on that
work, looking to establish how the Trust can share information through the
Wikimedia projects over the long term.
Kind regards,
Richard

Dear ALL - sorry for bringing this up potentially late,
but for the sake of 2023 Wiki Loves Pride campaign
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wiki_Loves_Pride/2023
if you wanna support local-regional content creation
and have/can access to media, info and good sources for
?LONDON and LGBTIQ+ Prides elsewhere in UK-Ireland?
Please consider adding them!
Best Z. Blace
We are trying to up the game with European content and
I just realized London Pride has no 2023 Commons category yet.
Dear all
Many thanks to those of you who attended Wikimedia UK's AGM last Saturday.
For those who weren't there, I'm pleased to report that *Sammy Tarling* was
elected to the Board of Trustees. Sammy is a long standing Wikimedian,
having served as a functionary on the English Wikipedia and globally across
the Wikimedia projects as a Steward until late 2022. Sammy has worked as a
software engineer on the Community Tech team at the Wikimedia Foundation
since early last year, and has experience as a company director.
Sammy replaces *Kelly Foster *as an elected trustee. Our thanks to Kelly
were recorded at the AGM and I would like to reiterate them here. Kelly has
served a three year term as a trustee, bringing a wealth of knowledge and
experience of the global Wikimedia movement. Whilst she is stepping down
from the board, she has agreed to remain on the Community Development
Committee as an independent member. We are very grateful to continue to
benefit from Kelly’s insights and networks in this capacity.
All the ordinary board resolutions were passed, and the minutes from the
2022 meeting were approved.
This is just a reminder that if you want to be able to vote at future AGMs,
please sign up for membership here
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Membership>. At the recent meeting, members
voted to keep the membership fee at just £5 a year for individuals,
although we always welcome additional donations!
With best wishes

Dear all
As some of you may be aware, Wikimedia UK and the Wikimedia Foundation have
been working together over the past months to advocate for changes to the
UK Online Safety Bill which is currently going through Parliament. Today,
we launched an open letter (with a consortium of signatories from the
civil society sector) and would appreciate the wider Wikimedia community's
support in amplifying this through your social media channels, if that
feels appropriate.
Here are some possible tweets that you may want to send - with the first
linking directly to the open letter and the bottom two linking to a blog
post, published yesterday (which now links to the open letter):
