Dear Wiki-Yorkers,
As a reminder, Wikimedia New York City's annual Members' Meeting is
scheduled for 7PM tonight, September 28th on Zoom. The Member's Meeting is
similar to other WikiWednesday meetups, except that its primary function is
to elect a new Board of Directors.
This is the first Members' Meeting since before the pandemic lockdown, and
we have emerged with an exciting vision for the future of Wikimedia NYC and
a new strategic plan to help us implement it. More information is available
via the meetup page at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Election_2022. We hope
to see you tonight!
Yours,
Megs

Hello New York Wikimedians!
Please join Wikimedia NYC for our Members’ Meeting
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Election_2022> on
September 28th, 2022, at 7pm on Zoom. The Members' Meeting is similar to
other WikiWednesday meetups, except that its primary function is to elect a
new Board of Directors.
We will elect five board seats. After being elected, those five people can
appoint up to four more (for a total of up to nine).
This is the first Members' Meeting since before the pandemic lockdown, and
we have emerged with an exciting vision for the future of Wikimedia NYC and
a new strategic plan to help us implement it. If you've been active in the
chapter and looking for ways to deepen your engagement, consider putting
yourself forward! If you know someone who you think would be a good fit for
the Wikimedia NYC Board, encourage them to self-nominate, too!
Voting is open to all dues-paying members of Wikimedia New York City. The
member year starts July 1, 2022. If you haven’t renewed or signed up since
then, it’s only $5 and you can join via PayPal using this link
<https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=LL3K9C…>.
Contact Richard Knipel (richard(a)wikimedianyc.org) if you have questions
about your membership. Joining/renewing before the 28th is appreciated for
technical reasons.
Voting will be via a secure third party service. Your email address will be
required to vote in order to validate members, but your vote itself will be
anonymous. If you cannot attend the meeting, proxy voting is not allowed,
but the voting system will be open for 24 hours on the day of September
28th (from 12:00 AM ET to 11:59 PM ET).
Who is eligible to be an elected board member? Nominees must:
-
be dues-paying members of Wikimedia New York City
-
live primarily in New York or the greater New York Metropolitan Area
-
nominate themselves on the nominations page
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Election_2022/Nominations>
by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on September 26. Note that this is a day and a
half before the meeting to ensure voters sufficient time to read about the
candidates.
The meetup page
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Election_2022> has some
additional information for prospective candidates.
We hope to see you then!

Dear Wiki-Yorkers,
I am thrilled to invite you to join us at the WikiGap 2022 - Women, Health
& Environment Wikipedia Edit-a-thon! Knowledge is power, and Wikipedia has
the potential to shape our view of the world. But there is a great
imbalance when it comes to representation on Wikipedia, like in society at
large. There are four times as many articles about men as there are about
women, just one of many statistics that speak to a larger gender gap.
We want to change this.
Join us and help to close Wikipedia's gender gap by editing and creating
Wikipedia articles about Women, Health & Environment. This is a hybrid
event with in-person sessions in New York and Washington, DC as well as a
virtual session for those who wish to attend remotely. Please bring a
laptop if planning to join us in-person.
The event is organized by Wikimedia DC, Wikimedia NYC, the Embassy of
Sweden to the United States, Sweden’s Consulate General in New York, and
the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the United Nations.
**** *WikiGap Edit-a-thon* ****
*Where*: Swedish Residence (600 Park Avenue) and online!
*When:* Thursday, April 28th 9AM - 12PM
*Registration:* Sign-up on Eventbrite
<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/wikigap-2022-women-health-environment-wikipedi…>!
Registration is required.
*Safety* *protocol*: All guests must show proof of vaccination or a
negative Covid-19 test result no older than 48 hours, as well as valid
proof of ID. Masks are strongly encouraged
We look forward to editing with you soon!
Best,
Megs
