Hola folks,
Wikimedia’s Developer Relations team is organizing a 2-day workshop
around Google
Code-in <https://codein.withgoogle.com/> for high school students of the
ChickTech <https://chicktech.org/> organization b/w *December 9-10th, 2017*
in San Francisco (657 Bryant Street).
Here is a tentative event schedule: https://www.mediawiki.org/
wiki/ChickTech_High_School_Kickoff_2017
We are looking to fill out a few volunteer slots.
If you are familiar with editing articles, creating user scripts on
Wikipedia and could offer help in facilitating an activity, be bold, edit
the wiki, add your name to the Leader column and email me off-list. We will
then reach out to you for further instructions!
With quality mentors and caring support, this event will make an impact in
helping female newcomer with technical background find their way into our
community. You don't need to be an expert to help someone feel welcome. Who
knows, you may even learn something yourself! :)
Cheers,
Srishti

Hi everyone! I've volunteered to help coordinate an information and editing event at the Monterey Public Library in beautiful Monterey California in conjunction with the Internet Librarian conference. This is a free event. The space will accommodate up to 75 people and we already have 20 people signed up. If you are interested in helping out please let me know. Depending on numbers it would be great to have 10 people with Wiki experience. I think it will be fun, and what a beautiful location.
Saturday, Oct 22nd
10am-1pm followed by a tour of the Monterey Public Library
Wikipedia: Tips, Techniques & Engagement

Hi everyone!
Encouraged by User:Nikikana, I'm organizing a Wiki Loves Monuments
photowalk on Saturday September 16 at 1 pm:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/San_Francisco/WLM_Financial_…
- starting in Chinatown and heading down through the Financial District.
It'll be about 1.75 miles long, and I think it'll be pretty fun - join me
if you're interested! I'll try to bring some fun history about the
buildings we're photographing, so that it can be a bit of a walking tour as
well.
Thanks,
Britta
Hi everyone,
At the recent edit-a-thon at SOMArts for "The Black Woman is God" art

universities, such as adding neutral and verifiable information about
graduation rates. Please reach out directly to Mr. Isaac using the contact
information below if you're interested in this opportunity or have
questions!

Subject: [Wikimedia-l] [fellowship] Opportunity for people working on "open
projects that support a healthy Internet."
To: wikimedia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org
Hi all,
I wanted to pass along an opportunity that I saw earlier today via Twitter:
https://medium.com/read-write-participate/work-in-the-open-
with-mozilla-1410be0a83b2
It sets up people working on "open projects that support a healthy
Internet" with a mentor, a cohort of like-minded people from all over the
world, and a trip to Mozfest, which is a London-based open Internet
conference I've attended/presented at in past years and found really
mind-expanding due to the cross-disciplinary conversations that take place.
You can see previous projects here: https://mozilla.github.
io/leadership-training/round-3/projects/ — it looks like there's quite a
broad cross-section and many of the projects across the movement might be
applicable. The post notes participants will learn about "best practices
for project setup and communication, tools for collaboration, community
building, and running events."
Thank you to Leila for suggesting I pass this along to this listserv. Feel
free to share it broadly.
