Wednesday, September 26 at 6 p.m...
Periodically, on a last Wednesday evening of the month, wiki and
open-source enthusiasts meet up to mingle, munch, collaborate or learn
about new projects and ideas. At each *WikiSalon*
we plan a brief formal presentation; some will help orient people new
to the wiki/open-source world, with others geared to more experienced
people. Many presentations will have broad appeal to
non-wiki/non-open-source folks. We hope you will join us! Note: We are
extremely inclusive – broadly construed – plus we adhere to the
friendly place policies of the Wikimedia Foundation.

*Location: 120 Kearny Street., Suite 1600, San Francisco 94108 (Wikimedia

As more data becomes digitized, and consumers increasingly share
personal and sensitive information with devices and apps, concerns
around data privacy are taking on greater importance. These concerns
are fueled by recent high-profile data misuse scandals that have
thrust the data gathering and privacy policies of companies into the
spotlight. Join us for a discussion of data privacy on both sides of
the pond, from the future of data privacy regulation in the US to the
recent introduction of the GDPR with its extraterritorial effect and
high maximum penalties, and the ripple effect of trends across the
globe.
This session, the Fifth Annual Kirkland & Ellis Law Forum, will bring
together leading in-house attorneys, private practitioners and
academics to discuss their views on the shifting sands of the data
privacy landscape.
Panelists:
Michael Callahan
Senior Vice President / General Counsel, LinkedIn (and incoming
Executive Director of the Stanford Rock Center for Corporate
Governance)

Hi everyone!
Would you be able to help with an upcoming Art + Feminism edit-a-thon
at California College of the Arts on Thursday March 15? Their Digital
Scholarship Librarian is looking for a Wikipedia editor to do an initial
training for new editors and help new editors during the event.
It'll be from 3 to 6 pm at CCA's SF campus, in the Simpson Library (1111
Eighth St, San Francisco).
If you're interested and would be available, email me directly, and I'll
connect you with them! (It's not compatible with my work schedule,
unfortunately.)
Also, SFMOMA now has a meetup page up for their Thursday March 8 event:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/San_Francisco/Art%2BFeminism…
Thank you,
Britta
Hi everyone,
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art will be hosting its first
edit-a-thon on Thursday March 8, 5-9 pm, and they'd love for local
Wikipedia community members to participate, and to help mentor brand-new
editors there (if you can).
This will be an Art + Feminism themed event, at SFMOMA's Public Knowledge
Library at 151 Third Street, on the 2nd floor - free to the public.
They'll have a SFMOMA website page up soon, and I'll be helping them make a
meetup page on Wikipedia itself soon. For now, it's on the Public Knowledge
calendar for March (https://publicknowledge.sfmoma.org/calendar/) and it's
also a Facebook event (https://www.facebook.com/events/148704872605276/).
Thanks,
Britta
