In fact for Bengali we have just started the effort of community building
exercise. Only one or two workshops had done till now. So it is very early
to calculate the result.
I have shared various best practices that we follow for Malayalam with
Jayantha. In fact the entire Malayalam course material is translated to
English so that Jayanatha can translate and customize it for Bengali. He
took huge effort to make the things happen. So it is our duty to help
Jayantha in various forms so that we can get maximum out of the workshops.
For Malayalam, we have an email id (help(a)mlwiki.in) to which user can send
help request at any time. Also we have created region specific google
groups. After each workshop we encourage participants to join the google
group of their region and sought help in case they require it. We found
roughly 10-20% of the participants from each workshop are becoming active
contributors.
So creating a help ID, creating region specific google groups, and so on
will help to retain users. There must be some channel through which
interested users can get back to us.
But it will be too much if we are putting entire responsibility on Jayantha.
We need to have few more people to assist him in various efforts for WB.

The Meet up and workshop was attended by more
than 25 participants.

The participants asked many questions about wiki,
Wikimedia Foundation,
Wikipedia, sister projects and so on. They also asked some queries
regarding
directorial board, why pages are protected,
policies, and so on. The
participants are introduced to wikipedia editing with wikimarkup in a
simple
way.
Is there a process for following up with the participants at these
workshops to gauge as to whether the workshops helped in
motivating/guiding them to contribute ?
