Re: Pradeep's email, Rachana Sansad is not yet confirmed for the next
monthly meetup on Sat 17 September.
I want to suggest that we find new venues for every weekly and monthly
meetups. These should not just be at cafes or restaurants, but at NGOs
and colleges in Mumbai, whom we should seek to recruit to the conference
effort and wider Wikipedia India cause.
Mumbai has a rich tradition of "documentation centres" which are natural
allies for our efforts at growing Wikipedia in India. I suggest we hold
our weekly meetups at their offices every Thursday until the conference.
These groups are scattered all over Mumbai. They include:
* Centre for Education & Documentation, Colaba
http://www.doccentre.net
* Akshara Centre, Dadar West,
http://www.aksharacentre.org
* SPARROW: Sound & Picture Archives for Research on Women, Versova
http://www.sparrowonline.org
* Vacha Library, Santacruz West,
http://www.vacha.org.in
* Vikas Adhyayan Kendra, Malad West
http://vakindia.org
* CEHAT: Centre for Enquiry into Health & Allied Themes, Santacruz East
http://www.cehat.org
* Comet Media Foundation, Lamington Road
http://www.cometmedia.org
* India Centre for Human Rights & Law, Dongri/Bhendi Bazar
http://www.hrln.org
* YUVA (Youth for Unity & Voluntary Action), Parel/Dadar
http://www.yuvaindia.org
I know the folks in-charge at all these places and we can organise
meetups where we can discuss upcoming planning, as well as include their
staff, whose job is documentation and research and who should learn more
about contributing to Wikipedia.
I can also suggest several colleges/institutes where we can find more
recruits include TISS and KRVIA, Rachna Sansad, and the Homi Bhabha
Centre at TIFR where Dr Nagarjuna is based. But attracting students is
more difficult in the short-term.
We need to develop longer-term collaborations with the generation of
activists, scholars and "documentalists" in Mumbai and get them involved
in the longer-term effort. Please let me know what you feel about this
and I will confirm a venue for the monthly meetup on Sat 17 Sept as well
as for next week's Thursday meetup.
Best,
Shekhar

hi,
We'd like the meeting to happen in central Mumbai - Sion to Dadar
thereabouts. I spoke with Shekhar on the phone and he has offered
place at the Rachna Sansad.
We do think that we should move the venue around Mumbai without
going too much to extremeties.
Nagarjuna, we would need service of your gnowledge lab when we hope
to do a WikiAcademy in Mumbai. WikiAcademy is where people are
helped in editing Wikipedia and are taught some basics and some
rules around Wikipedia. We knoww we have an open offer from your
end. :)
If there are other options in the general location mentioned above
Sion to Dadar, please do add it here.
warm regards,
Pradeep
