Hi,
Mumbai Meetup IX was held on 23-4-2011 at 10.30am, venue was the office of
Rao Bahadur Sheth Curumsey Damjee Arogya Bhuvan Trust (Near CST Station,
Fort, Mumbai).
1. GLAM:
There was a discussion on moving forward. Pradeep (User:Prad2609) was
requested to arrange for a professor to explain the licensing so a seminar
could be organised on the topic. Hisham invited persons from the community
to apply for a grant to work on GLAM full time for a 3-6 month period.
Bishaka mentioned she new someone who may be interested and would follow up
2. WikiConference India:
With much enthusiasm it was unanimously resolved that Mumbai take the
initiative on this front and host a national-level WikiConference in
November 2011. User:AroundTheGlobe suggested it be held at a hill station
near Mumbai as that would not only be cost effective but also quite
convenient given the number of resorts having the infrastructure to hold
such an event. The hill station of Lonavala was a consensus as a good venue.
Hisham then suggested that Mumbai should invite Pune to co-host the event as
Lonavala is between Mumbai and Pune and this would be a good opportunity to
collaborate. It was resolved that Kundan (User:Angpradesh) would send out an
invite to Ashwin Bhaindur of the Pune Community requesting them to co-host
the event. Kundan further promised contact some people he knows from Sahara
Amby Valley to explore the possibility of that being a venue. Pradeep and
User:AroundTheGlobe agreed to look up other possible venues. Bishakha
mentioned she will contact a resort owner she personally knows.
3. WikiMania 2013:
Kundan has put up a bid for Mumbai to host WikiMania 2013 in January 2011.
It was agreed that All-India community support be sought before proceeding
with a formal bid. User:AroundTheGlobe advised that it would take about 6
months to come up with a formidable bid that could challenge a strong bid
from possibly Africa or Australia. It was agreed that a decision on the
subject must be made by 15 May 2011.
4. WikiAcademy:
Hisham mentioned quite a few students from Mumbai had applied for the campus
ambassador program (currently being piloted in Pune). These students seemed
new to Wikipedia. It was resolved to host a Wikiacademy for these students
to encourage them to edit. A possible venue could be HBCSE.
I could not come to the last meeting. Please let me know what we can
do at HBCSE.
