A chance find of this page reveals the most popular Wikipedia pages for
December 2010 :
http://stats.grok.se/en/top
Of the top 1000 (including functional pages not containing information)
WikiProject India had six :
#39 [[India]] (Featured article, Top Importance)
# 336 [[Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi]] (B Class, Top Importance ) (History &
Politics TFs)
#375 [[Indian classical dance]] (Start class, High Importance)
#542 [[Shahrukh Khan]] (B Class, Mid Importance ) (Delhi, Cinema &
Television TFs)
#648 [[Bollywood films of 2010]] (List Class, Mid Importance) (Cinema TF)
#757 [[Sachin Tendulkar]] (B Class, High Importance ) (Maharashtra &
Mumbai TFs)
#765 [[Katrina Kaif]] (C Class, Low Importance) (Cinema TF)
I have excluded [[Nicki Minaj]] and [[Freddie Mercury]] from this list. It
takes a real stretch of imagination to add [[Nicki Minaj]] to the
WikiProject. Freddie Mercury is already under the WikiProject. I think that
there are people other than Indians enough to bother about these two
articles.
A few remarks:
* Where can one find the top 100 articles in term of page views? It can be
argued that these are the most valuable real estate we have. It would be
very useful to be able to know and improve these articles.
* Can any one point us to an existing tool for this?
* Alternatively, can any one set up a tool page for this.
* For some reason [[Indian classical dance]] is very valuable. We really
need to bring it upto B Class standards at the earliest. After [[Dance in
India]]. thi should be the next project for all editors interested in song
& dance.
* The analogue of [[Bollywood films of 2010]] is [[Bollywood films of
2012]]. This years list has already been viewed 2,44,217 times in the last
30 days.
*We need to revive Task Force Indian Cinema. Bollywood & associated film
industries are not only extremely popular topics to our people, but also to
our diaspora. Even more importantly, talking like a soldier, Indian Cinema
is one of the most powerful mechanisms of soft power extended by our
nation. Our adversaries would pay billions of dollars to be able to get that
kind of influence. No question, Indian Cinema on English Wikipedia needs
loads of attention.
* Articles on major stars will always be high on India page-view lists and
probably draw more page views than the top ten articles on most lists.
These need to be developed well for that reason.
* May I request someone interested in Bollywood to please recruit new users
who are already editing Indian cinema articles; I am sure there are at
least a hundred newbies out there if not more and entice them to
WikiProject Indian Cinema?
* User:Karthikndr is the coordinator there and we have many capable
participants including admins such as Utcursch, Sir Nick, & Gurubrahma.
* We need a monthly report on this list & on India Noticeboard on the
activity in Indian Cinema to interest us & keep us involved. Karthik Nadar,
can you please oblige?
Note: Task Force Indian Cinema is actually the Indian Cinema Task Force for
WikiProject Films and is a joint task force alongwith WikiProject India.

Dear all,
I've created a working Project page on en-WP for the Crafts museum project.
I welcome you all to join and put down your name as participants. Everyone
is welcome, including people interested in translations, making userboxes,
providing stats, creating articles and so on.
We've hit a few roadblocks getting the formal agreement finalized, while
that still happens I realized there was a lot of back end work which could
be finished.
Look forward to your support! Here's the link:

Hey guys,
I have created a separate Wiki-Project for Mangalore. Anyone interested can
add your name here. The project was deleted before, and i hope that this
time there are enough people to keep it functioning.

In the WikiProject India Template, there is an option called "auto" which
has the following documentation in the template :
*auto* – "*yes*" This parameter is for bot-use.
What on earth does it imply? IF I add the template to an unassessed
article, should I add this parameter or not?

Dear friends,
WikiProject Gujarat is one of the many Task Forces/daughter
WikiProjects of WikiProject India on English Wikipedia,
I am happy to report that we have new blood and fresh activity in
WikiProject Gujarat for last few weeks. The participants of the last
photothon are continuing to maintain the momentum gained from that
event and we are seeing both results and new initiatives. Senior
editors from Gujarat are doing their bit and mentoring the young folk.
In this backdrop, it is my privilege to introduce Konarak Ratnakar,
(User:Kondicherry) to the community. Konarak has been very active in
Ahmedabad meetups and has agreed to promote WikiProject Gujarat on
English Wikipedia as a volunteer coordinator.
I request you all to join me in welcoming him and also to support him
as he goes around reviving the WikiProject.
Please note that WikiProject Gujarat, on English Wikipedia is not to
be confused with the similar sounding Gujarati Wikipedia.
With this, the number of volunteer coordinators on English Wikipedia
goes up to three - self, BPositive, and now Kondicherry. The actual
requirement is almost one hundred, that is how many
departments/TFs/daughter WikiProjects we have!
So if anybody would like the stewardship of any function in the
WikiProject, be assured there is lots of opportunity and so please
step forth and volunteer.
Warm regards,
Ashwin Baindur
