Hi everyone,
Here's an update from me in capacity as the Strategy Liaison for our user
group.
I attended an online Strategic Wikimedia Affiliates Network meeting on
2022.02.27. Below is a summary of the main points of the meeting
(highlighted), with my reflections on some issues with specific relevance
to our user groups. The most significant development is the f*orthcoming
vote on the Enforcement Guidelines for the Universal Code of Conduct
(UCoC).*
In other news, the work on Standardised Data on Initiatives (STARDIT)
<http://scienceforall.world/STARDIT/>is progressing. The article about the
Beta version <https://doi.org/10.21203/rs.3.rs-934285/v1> has been accepted
for publication (pending some amendments). I will also be supporting our
technical editors to use it. I am also excited to announce that Cochrane is
also using STARDIT to report the co-creation of their Values Statement
<https://wikispore.wmflabs.org/wiki/Cochrane_Values_Statement>,
joining Australian
Genomics
<https://wikispore.wmflabs.org/wiki/Involve_Australia_Prospective_Report_2021-2023>
and other organisations currently using STARDIT.
Our work building strategic partnerships for the Wikijournals I hope will
be bolstered by my recently being elected co-chair of the Citizen Science
and Open Science Community of Practice,
<http://citizenscienceglobal.org/projects.html> which feeds into UNESCO
work on open science (voluntary position). I also sit on the Cochrane
Council (voluntary position) if anyone from the WikiJournal of Medicine
wants to reach out with any questions or ideas. There is much going on in
the world of systematic reviews and Cochrane and real opportunities to
develop partnership working.
As always, if you have any questions about strategy, or would like me to
raise anything at future meetings - do let me know.
All the best,
Jack

-
Universal Code of Conduct/Enforcement guidelines/Voter information
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Universal_Code_of_Conduct/Enforcement_guidelines/Voter_information>
-
This work has moved forward and a vote to ratify the Enforcement
Guidelines for the Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC) is scheduled for 7
March 2022
-
I asked if there would be any specific resourcing to support
enforcing the Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC). I stated that this
resourcing needs to go beyond training (which is all that is currently
stated) and needs to include dedicated financial support which
can be used
to pay for staff time etc so they can support volunteers, and possibly
further support for mediation (neutral facilitators etc). It's not always
fair or appropriate to rely entirely on volunteers to enforce in some
scenarios.
-
Hubs/Dialogue <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Hubs/Dialogue>
-
The Movement Strategy and Governance team of the Wikimedia Foundation
will host a global conversations event on the concept of Hubs on
March 12,
2022. It is the second event focusing specifically on Hubs, the first
one was the co-creation workshop on November 27, 2021.
-
Movement Charter <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_Charter>
-
The Movement Charter will be a document defining roles and
responsibilities for all the members and entities of the Wikimedia
movement
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Wikimedia_movement>,
including laying out a new Global Council
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Global_Council>
for movement governance. The Movement Charter is a Movement Strategy
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Movement_Strategy>
priority. A broad ratification process is expected for its adoption.
