Wikinews usually does short little articles and is usually written in
an entirely different style than a Wikipedia article. Having one
centralized encyclopedia article allows constant update rather than
the spawning of a dozen new stories everytime something changes.

based a news tickers and CNN?
Is it a bad idea? It'll evolve like everything else, perhaps even
better than most other things because it will be highly attended to.
It will no doubt need a little more synthesis from the vantage point
of a few month's hindsight but that's no reason not to have it
operating concurrently.
