Gratuitous sarcasm aside, I think you're wrong. The reason you can't
"rechannel" pokemon editors' efforts into history is because history
doesn't interest them, and they have no expertise. Stopping people
working on pokemon articles doesn't really improve other areas. But
the editors who work on year articles are likely to have interest in
that area and could conceivably put their efforts elsewhere.
Really though, good decade articles would be far more useful than good
individual year articles. Articles like [[1650s in fashion]] or
whatever are pretty cool.
