New means new, novel means novel. Or more specifically, "different,
original, creative" etc. As I argued earlier, arranging events in
chronological order is not different, original, or creative. But it
could be "new" if no one had actually published such a chronology.
Arguing causalities, attempting to draw inferences or patterns "Most
of the events in Smith's life revolved around prostitutes" etc, would
be novel.
