Hello,
I would like to hear some feedback about the wikibook
http://es.wikibooks.org/wiki/Vocabulario_%28es%29 from
those working on language learning wikibooks.
This wikibook is only written in the learning language
because the images should be enough to understand its
meaning. The great advantage of this system is that we
only need one wikibook to learn one language.
I still have to improve it much. Until now it only has
vocabulary. But I want to create a reference area
where lexical words will link in order to solve
gramatical difficulties. The references tables should
be simple and also monolingual.
If there is positive feedback, I am planning to
translate it into English into the English wikibooks.

I thought a very interesting and well-written (and sourced) blog entry
by Ben Crowell, a pioneer in e-book publishing, would be interesting

I think that much of what Mr. Crowell has to say about Wikibooks and
Wikipedia is a very valid critism, especially from somebody who is
outside of Wikimedia projects trying to locate some gems of quality that
may be useful. It is also from somebody who has done more than just a
casual glance at what we are doing here, and comes from somebody who has
done what Wikibooks is claiming as an ultimate goal (but didn't use
Wikibooks to accomplish the task).

Sorry for the late notice on this.
The start of the fund drive has been delayed for at least a few days. The reason is to give us
time to prepare more translations, a press release, donor feedback mechanisms (such as
automatically listing new PayPal donations), and work on next quarter's budget.
I will update the translation coordination page on meta with the finalized start and end dates
after the board decides that on their Friday 9 December meeting. I'll also repost to these lists.

This idea has me pretty excited: what about students filming or audio
recording lectures and uploading them as supplementary material for
textbooks? The audio/video material will itself not be immediately wiki-able
but could be available on the site for reference and future editing. Anyone
out there know of intellectual property questions? Is there any problem
taping a lecture and uploading it? Does it depend on whether the
teacher/prof gives permission, or the school, or what?
My mind is positively busting with the possibilities of science lectures
available on wikibooks. Some people learn best by reading, others by
listening, others by seeing ... If we can get audio or video of lectures
online that will be like having a downloadable classroom, where you can get
all of the classroom experience except the immediate opportunity to ask
questions.
