Ah! I forgot to say that as part of the 10th Anniversari of the Viquipedia, in Catalonia
we are organizing a panel on Wikipedia research the week of 14-19 of Marc 2011. Cheers!

Hello!
I wanted to bring to your attention the fact that two
upcoming conferences, SocialCom [2] and WebScience [3], currently accept workshop
proposals. KDD [4] is also soliciting >workshop proposals but the deadline is very
close (1 Feb). Calls for workshops at other major conferences this summer (HT, ICWSM, CHI,
CSCW) are already closed. If we wish >to organise a Wikimedia research session, the two
conferences above would make great venues. I am not yet considering venues such as
WikiSym, CollaborateCom, GROUP or >CPOV that will take place later in Fall 2011, but
these are obvious options as well.
I don't plan to attend any of those conference this year. I guess the conference each
attend has to do with its related disciplines and the living base. I planned to suggest
panels to the European Consortium of Political Research (ECPR, Islandia August 2011), Open
Knowledge Foundation Conference (Berlin June 30 - July 1) and the 7th International
Conference on Internet, Law & Politics (IDP, Barcelona July 2011). I am happy to
spread the word there. Perhaps we can do a flyier suggestion strategic lines of research
and each distributed to the conference each of us attend. We can also send a message to
the e-lists linked to conferences.
Cheers! Mayo

I don't know how much money we are talking about to fund attendance at
these events, but it might be worth approaching the Wikimedia
foundation for a grant if the aim is to present something that would
further the foundations objectives.
Also depending on where in the world you are, I think the DE chapter
has a grant program and I know the UK chapter is just launching one.

Hello together,
I do not see a funding line to attend either of these meetings, so
WebScience, being in Europe, would be the only real option for me.

All,
during the first RCom meeting we decided we would seek ways to highlight
strategic research challenges at some major social computing conference.
John suggested we could organise "a panel at which some members of this
committee might give a presentation on their views on high-value research
contributions to Wikipedia". Others proposed a competition/data challenge to
bootstrap research relevant to the strategic objectives of the Wikimedia
community [1].

Does anybody want to help draft some ideas for a possible workshop proposal?
