I'll use that thread as an opportunity to suggest something I've been
thinking about lately and that is related not only to mobile. As it is
now, all the documentation is available online. That is usually OK
because nowadays we have Internet almost everywhere. However, we should
remember that not all the world is like that. There are still countries
where broadband connection is not that common. What if someone from such
a country wants to work on MediaWiki or any of its extensions? It's very
difficult for them to browse the documentation. Also, I found myself in
a similar situation several times, e.g. on a plane or train without
wireless Internet.
What about making the documentation available offline? I thought about
including it in the source tree, but I'm not sure how this could be
done. Is there any tool we could use for that? If not, maybe we should
write one?
I'm not sure how much interest there might be in making the docs
available offline. Perhaps we should start a separate thread on Wikitech?

Subject: Please read: Proposal to consolidate Mobile projects documentation
To: mobile-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org
Hi,
A few weeks ago, Tomasz asked me to investigate the possibility of
consolidating the Mobile projects documentation, currently split
between meta and
mediawiki.org.
I've done some inventorizing and planning:
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Technical_communications/Mobile_documentatio…
What I'd like to ask you guys now is the following:
* Do you see any reason not to move forward with this plan?
* Could you take a look at the content on meta and delete what's
obsolete (and doesn't need archiving)?
* When would be the best time to do the actual move? I expect the move
to take about a day, and I'd like to choose a time that minimizes
disruption.
Let me know if you have any concerns or questions :)
