I took a risk and proceeded with my upgrade and all seems to've gone well except my main page told me, If you have just upgraded MediaWiki MediaWiki 1.24 and newer no longer automatically enables installed skins (see Manual: Skin autodiscovery). You can paste the following lines into LocalSettings.php to enable all currently installed skins: require_once "$IP/skins/CologneBlue/CologneBlue.php"; require_once "$IP/skins/Modern/Modern.php"; require_once "$IP/skins/MonoBook/MonoBook.php"; require_once "$IP/skins/Vector/Vector.php"; If you have just modified LocalSettings.php Double-check the skin names for typos. I did all of the above, and cleared my cache, but the error still appears. Anyone know what obvious thing I am ignoring?

Sure. Its Forbidden You don't have permission to access /wiki/Special:Preferences on this server. That looks like an error message for some entirely different bug… (probably something wrong with your server configuration and not MediaWiki). -- Bartosz Dziewoński

Upgrade php to a 5.4.x version. I don't care what mw requirements state, there is some funky stuff happening in 5.3 php versions. I have observed this locally and on hosts. Changing to 5.4 fixed everything. Tom

I use 5.3 and works for me. try using the mediawiki 1.25 which is currently being prepared to be released try it. it is a pre release and you would need to download the skin and also vendor manualy. but should work. since it is a month a way from release. Glad 5.3 works for you, but not all versions work as expected. Don't have time to look it up but iirc there is a known issue with some of the lower versions of 5.3. Updating to a php 5.4 solved the issues. Tom
