<ref> ... </ref> not working

mediawiki installation error in...

When I try to use <ref>...</ref> and <references/> to show the references... it doesn't work (the code is shown instead the references)... What am I doing wrong? I have used <ref> tags in other wikis and it works whit no problems. thanxs -- "If there is a shell, there is a way"

The extension Cite is required, http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Cite/Cite.php. Maybe it is missing in your wiki. HTH
