Does this work with 1.5?
Honestly, we haven't tested this against 1.5 yet. We do plan to upgrade
to 1.5 eventually, so we would like for it to, but I don't know right now.
Unfortunately, there were no hooks where we needed them for us to extend
this functionality unobtrusively. As you can see, we tried to minimize
the amount of core mw code we carry around with us, but there is much
room for improvement here.
The only way we were able find to change the behavior of the Edit page
was to extend the EditPage.php class. We kept our changes down to
overriding a single method, but its a big one, and an important one,
that has probably changed between 1.4 and 1.5.
We are interested in carrying around less of the mw code as soon as
hooks for adding this kind of functionality become available.
Also - I have no way to apply a patch, is there
detailed information on what
is changed in the index.php?
The patch file is ascii - you should be able to view it and see what
changed. Basically, you just need to require the new file, and
instantiate the CategoryEditPage instead of the regular EditPage.
Please write back if this is not clear enough.
Thank you, Jonah.
Sure thing. I also had alot of help from other developers here at
CCNMTL. But this is a project we have been interested in for a long
time

I just wanted to announce the release of two new
widgets which make our
wikis run much smoother.
http://sourceforge.net/project/mediawiki-agora
The categoryeditor widget allows users to view the existing categories
while editing the page, and automatically inserts/removes the Category
tags into the text area when the add/remove buttons are clicked.
http://sourceforge.net/project/screenshots.php?group_id=130663&ssid=200…
The categorysearch special page allows users to query the db for any/all
articles associated with those categories.
http://sourceforge.net/project/screenshots.php?group_id=130663&ssid=200…
Neither of these widgets are very useful for the wikipedia itself, since
it has far to many categories, and the in-out widget does not currently
scale that well, but for small-medium size wikis we have found these
widgets to be very helpful.
Is the best place to announce this tool?
BTW - the mediawiki-agora is a sourceforge project modeled on the Plone
Collective. It is intended as a repository for an assortment of useful
mw extensions that have no permanent home elsewhere. If anyone else has
any projects they would like to throw in the mix, please contact me and
i will add you as a developer.
Enjoy,
/Jonah
