Hi everyone,
My MediaWiki reference book, "Working with MediaWiki", was first released
in November 2012; and I don't have to tell anyone on these lists that there
have been a lot of changes to MediaWiki and its extensions since then -
updated interfaces and skins, marked improvements to extensions like
VisualEditor and Scribunto, and new extensions like CirrusSearch and
Bootstrap. I'm happy to announce that I just released a "2nd printing" of
Working with MediaWiki, updated for 2014. It has an updated cover (now with
a matte finish, if you get the physical book!), and lots of updated text
and images - about 25% of the pages have had some sort of change.
To read more about "Working with MediaWiki", and to see options for buying
it, whether as a printed book, an e-book, or a PDF file, you can go here:

Thanks,
Yaron

The MultiUpload extension has been unmaintained for a while. I believe
its author has moved on to another job. I've written a completely
independent piece of extension code (as a byproduct of work I did for
the WorkingWiki extension) that provides a multiple-upload interface.
After consulting with Petrb, who is listed as the current maintainer of
MultiUpload on mediawiki.org, I'm thinking of checking in my
multiple-upload code as a new version of MultiUpload, completely
replacing the current implementation.
I'm posting here in case anyone objects or cares to raise concerns.
Here's a bare-bones demo video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4d90Tt5EGAc
And here's my extension, in a temporary location:

I'm getting these type of error messages when I try to upload a image
file and occaisionally the commonswiki images system also fails when
required to create a thumbnail.
Could not read or write file
"mwstore://local-backend/local-public/a/ad/Accelerator_physics_icon.svg"
due to insufficient permissions or missing directories/containers.
Could not store file
"/var/www/pw/images/temp/localcopy_a44d14993766-1.svg" at
"mwstore://local-backend/local-public/a/ad/Accelerator_physics_icon.svg".
I have the /images directory & all the recursives inside it; inside the
mediawiki; set at 46777 temporarily. All of of the mediawiki site is
owned by www-data. Other permissions are mostly set at 0775 or 0755.
I don't know if this is best or perhaps another owner that is not the
primary of apache2. Thought that might help. but no.
I just upgraded the site to 1.22.4 from 1.21xx.
Any tips are appreciated.

i install cirrusSearch and i added the
require_once(
"$IP/extensions/CirrusSearch/CirrusSearch.php" ) line of code to the
LocalSettings.php according to the instructions. Then when i went to check the
Special:Version page to verify the installation nothing was showing on the
screen, and the search didn't work as expected. can anybody help me
