Hi,
have aquestion and hope that someone out there can help me.
Am using MediaWiki for http://spaceweek.de
Tried to keep the site open for everyone interested, however, to much
spam, so I gave only the admin (myself) all the permissions to edit.
Nonetheless, since couple weeks, after I log in, the site is not loading
and I can't edit anything anymore...what can that be?....do you have any
clue, how to solve this problem?
Contacted my webspace provider, but they vist the site and everything
seems to be fine....just when I like to edit and add anything the sites
don"t load and remain blank...no info ..nothing..
Any hint how to solve this will be highly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Ad planetae,
Karin

Hi, (I fixed this problem, I'm posting it nevertheless because it might
be interesting to others)
I updated MediaWiki from 1.15.5 to 1.17alpha and got an interesting
error: thumbnails could not be generated anymore; there was an empty
error message (via thumb.php:147). I traced it back to the ImageMagick
call made by MediaWiki, see http://pastebin.ca/2047146.
Two notable facts:
a) MediaWiki didn't return ulimit's error and instead displayed a
generic error. This should not be the case.
b) I have mostly default settings and enough RAM (>1gb on machine, 512MB
set in php.ini). This *should* work with default settings.
It turned out that the default setting of $wgMaxShellMemory = 102400;
was too low. Increasing it by *10 fixed all problems.
Is the default setting perhaps too low? Anyone else experience this problem?
Also: Were there any major changes on how images are handled between
1.15 and 1.17? Previously thumbnails worked just fine.

Hello, mediawiki in 1.16.2, and I want to replace certain characters
at once Page, DB
Could you tell me that you have stored anywhere in the table? Thank you.
Hi all!
Could someone translate this to a single sophisticated mysql-statement
(perhaps with a count() on the categories-result)?
The code below retrieves category links from pages (articles) containing
specific files.
At the beginning I only have page ids from the filepages.
for($i=1;$i<count($pidsArray);$i++):
$qString = "SELECT page_title FROM ".$wgDBprefix."page where
page_id='".$pidsArray[$i]."' and page_namespace=6";/* File: namespace */
$wgRes = $db->query($qString);
while($row = $db->fetchObject($wgRes)):
$imagePages[$i]=$row->page_title;
endwhile;
endfor;
$e=0;
for($i=1;$i < count($imagePages);$i++):
$qString = "SELECT il_from FROM ".$wgDBprefix."imagelinks where
il_to='".$imagePages[$i]."'";/* File: namespace */
$wgRes = $db->query($qString);
$row = $db->fetchObject($wgRes);
while($row = $db->fetchObject($wgRes)):
$imageLinks[$e]=$row->il_from;
endwhile;
endfor;
for($i=0;$i<count($imageLinks);$i++):
$qString = "SELECT cl_to FROM ".$wgDBprefix."categorylinks where
cl_from='".$imageLinks[$i]."'";
$wgRes = $db->query($qString);
while($row = $db->fetchObject($wgRes)):
$categories[$i]=$row->cl_to;
endwhile;
endfor;

I'm terrified of the faqhammer, but nonetheless, I boldly will ask my
question.
I cannot get the Sidebar to update. I did the following:
- edited (created) MediaWiki:Sidebar and added a single wiki link. Sidebar
still shows default.
- touched LocalSettings.php
- truncated the objectcache table in MySQL
- tried loading with ?action=purge
- set '$wgUseDatabaseMessages = true;' in LocalSettings.php
- restarted the web server & php-fpm in case something was cached
...? Other page edits work fine and the wiki is working great. But the
sidebar stubbornly refuses to change.
Just to be clear, by sidebar I mean the section with navigation ("Main
page", "Community portal", etc.)
MediaWiki 1.16.2. The only plugin I have is SyntaxHighlight_GeSHi, but
disabling that made no difference.
Yes I have the same problem. So annoying. Are humans confirming the emails as
well?
I have captcha, email confirmation and the SpamBlacklist extension and i'm still
getting spammed every day for the last week. They keep making new accounts every
day. What can I do since they are bypassing all this? Really annoying and time
consuming banning users and deleting spam pages.

Having now been bitten a few times by this (and. OK, it's really just
down to me being a numpty) I was wondering if there was an extension or
built-in option to pop-up a JavaScript warning if the user tries to close an
edit page that has a “changes preview” section (i.e., the current changes
haven't been saved yet).
Not just an edit page, which could be for perusing mark-up, but one where
<show preview> has been clicked.
Anyone seen anything like this? A bit of googling hasn't highlighted
anything.

Hallo.
Please see request on Wikimedia Bugzilla:
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28363
This request marked as RESOLVED WONTFIX by Brion Vibber, but Brion wrote
that this is not a problem.
Anybody can write a patch with the proposed fixes for CheckUser 1.16.x
(r66255)?
