I have a mostly default install of MW1.9.3, I have not done any interwiki stuff with it yet. But when I try to create a page that begins with "Unreal:", it takes me to a wiki at a third-party website, beyondunreal.com. Is this actually defaulted in the MW code? If not, how did this happen (security problem?). How do I change it/stop it from doing this?

Hello all,
I wonder if anyone could point me to the extension (or perhaps I've
missed the built-in method) to get featured content on the main page
of the wiki, a bit like wikipedia does?
What I'd like to accomplish is to pin one or two articles to the front
page and rotate that on a regular basis.
As an aside, I seem to remember a way to view which extensions were
used on a particular wiki, but the method now eludes me. Any info
greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Sean
I wanted to change our site name from acorn, to wiki.
I know this is generic, but have reasons to do it...
The root is already "wiki"

Running MediaWiki 1.5.4
How can this be done?
Is it enough to change $wgSitename in LocalSettings.php?
Do any changes need to be made to the MySQL database?
Will this mess anything up when I upgrade to 1.1x in a few months?
Thanking anyone for answers,

I am working on a website that will include a MediaWiki for a business, is there a way to set up so that user’s are automatically watching all pages or to create a group for certain user’s that will send those users an e-mail when any page is edited, I looked in the FAQ and the E-Mail Notification Extension is no longer available for download. Thank you in advance for any information you are able to provide on this issue.

I am moving a wiki from one server to another and would like to upgrade at
the same time (from mediawiki-1.9.3 to mediawiki-1.10.1). Can this be done
by using the special page Export to XML of the old site and then using the
special page Import facility on 1.10.1 or will there be problems with the
XML tagging? (Would the HTML markup be fully preserved also?)
If the move+upgrade can't be done like this I assume I have to upgrade the
1.9.3 wiki version first, then mysqldump it before importing into the new
database.
Thanks
Alex
Hello all,
I am having some problem with transclusion. Edits to the source wiki
aren't getting reflected in the target wikis.
I searched the mediawiki archives and found that someone else also had
this problem earlier. They had suggested
that this:
changing "?action=$action" to "&action=$action"
in /includes/Parser.php.
would work. Mine doesn't work even after applying this change.
Please help !!
Thank you,

Hello!
I'm Kev and for a project i have to install and work with wikimedia.
The installation worked fine but now i have a little problem.
For my project the registered user can write articels but he should only fill in predefined fields. For example: when the user will write an articel he sees 3 fields. One for the name of the article, one for the text and one where he can wrtite when he find or made the text.
Is this possible with wikimedia and how can i implement this?
Thank you for your help.
PS: Please apologized my english, it isn't very well.

Hello all,
I can't seem to find the answer to this. It's likely somewhere rather
obvious, but Google and my searches in the manual don't seem to get me
the answer.
I need to use brackers [] in text when i truncate quotations, but that
is obviously reserved for links... I tried to use the ISO character
reference, [ and ], and it works, but it's somewhat clumsy,
and while I might be able to remember it, I can't expect all Wiki
users to remember it.
How can I do this? Any ideas?
Thanks
Sean
